none of your business
I have a friend that has a old 270 Win ADL. He wants to put a custom 260 barrel and stock on his long action. He would prefer to stay with BDL type bottom metal. He isn't sure if he wants to get into reloading or not yet. He and I wanted to know if anyone had done this and if factory 260 ammo fed properly or not without any modifications.

How about 6.5x55? Will it feed OK without mods. Are there any modern high pressure loadings for 6.5x55L that send 140's above 2800 fps out of a 26" barrei?

Thanks

The .260 would work, the Army has been feeding the .308 through the long action for 25 years.
an occasional short stroke happens.

There MIGHT be some euro factory loads in 6.5x55 that are full pressure, but they would be spendy.

If you have to tote a long action, I would get everything I can out of the round. I would rebarrel to a .280 rem. Tons of 7mm bullets to chose from, plus the extra capacity.

He wants to use the rifle for shooting steel and hunting deer in a lightweight rifle. Recoil is a concern because he wants to practice with the rifle a lot. He hates the noise of muzzle brakes and can't afford a suppressor right now. He's leaning towards a cartridge with moderate recoil.

Feeding shouldn't be a problem. I had a 6.5x284 built on a Rem 700 LA, it never had an issue. Now I know that is a different cartridge than you are asking about, but the 6.5 is a SA cartridge.

260 would work, I've got a reamer that would work really well for a LA build.

6.5-284 or 284 would be fine choice.

Would be more then happy to supply him with ammo loaded specifically for his rifle, regardless of caliber he decides to go with.
