So I'm new to the Grendel. My first build will be complete just as soon as AA gets me the barrel. Can the standard 5.56 mag be used for the Grendel? I know it would hold less rounds but heard that they are the same. Is this true?

No, it isn't the same magazine.
C-products has pretty decent 6.5 Grendel magazines, at least in my experience.
AA 6.5 Grendel magazines would be my first choice, though it looks like a C-products magazine with an AA floorplate.
I have both and the AA floorplate mags fit better, drop free, etc.

I have an AA too and as said above, no .223 mags won't work.
I have a few C-Products Grendel mags and they've worked well for me plus they're cheaper but their quality seems to be hit or miss as their version of an ACIS mag sucks donkey balls.
