I posted this on the optics forum with no results, so I'm hoping someone here might have an answer.

I don't know what the problem is, but I can't get this online from EOtech -- the website says "coming soon" even though the 553 has been in production for years. Can't find it on Google, although I did learn that the 553 manual on the EOtech website has been "coming soon" since 2008!

I emailed EOtech for this and have heard NOTHING!!! Great customer support there, EOtech.

I did find on the EOtech website a manual covering the Models 502, 511, 512, 551 and 552, but no 553.

What gives? Is the 553 manual top secret or what?

Thanks!

Re: Manual for EOtech 553?

Are you looking for certain information contained in the manual or just to have? I should have a 552 manual laying around if you need something.

Thanks for responding! (More than I can say of EOtech itself)

I already have a copy of the "manual" (actually just an instruction sheet printed with extremely fine, unreadable print) for the 502, 511, 512, 551 and 552 models that I got on the EOtech website. Of course, you have to blow it up at least 200% on to a 36" piece of paper in order to read it, which is a pain in the ass. I guess EOtech has taken it upon themselves to save the world's paper supply by condensing 7 pages of text onto a single, impossible to read sheet of paper for the entire English-speaking world.

I'd hate to think of any of our people out in the field in Afghanistan or Iraq having to read this thing without a microscope in their rucksack.

I have not idea if the 553 is functional identical as the 502 - 552 models, but for some reason, EOtech has seen fit to require a separate manual for it, which has been "coming soon" for about 3 years now. I have to say it's pretty ridiculous in this day and age to not have a replacement manual available for one of your products on your website, especially a piece of equipment that could be the difference between life and death.

Re: Manual for EOtech 553?

Because the 553 is designed for and issued to the military , the manual is a restricted distribution item. That's probably the reason why you could find it.
There is no pertinent info on it thats diff from the others. The military requires a manual and Quick reference guide for everything issued. The zeroing instructions and fuctions are all the same.
I believe the only diff between the models is the battery compartment and mounting. 553 uses 2 cr123 batt,552 2 AA batt and so on.
I highly doubt anyone in the field will ever need to pull out the manual. Unless you forget how to change your batteries and thats what your BUIS is for.
If theres something you need within the manual let me know.

Havoc and Lunchbox, thanks very much for your replies!

So, apparently the 553, aside from the battery type, is functionally the same as the other units that I have a (200% blown up) user manual for.

It's just frustrating for the manufacturer to throw a point of confusion into the works at the last second when you go to the preparation and trouble to get something like this dialed in. Admittedly, I've learned the hard way that being a "when all else fails, read the manual" kind of guy is not the way to go, especially for a sophisticated and expensive piece of equipment like this.

Thanks!
