After a lot of reading. I am seriously considering selling my Schmidt and Bender PM II 5*25*56. And getting a March 3*24*42. For my light weight rig what do yall think about the March scopes. For those of you that have them could you tell me about them good or bad. Let's hear it

My opinion March #1.
My priorities in March tac.:
-1-10 MML milrad SFP
-3-24 FML-1 milrad FFP
-5-40 FML-1 milrad FFP
-8-80 MML milrad SFP

Re: March F Scopes

I sold my other high end optics and went with March, I love them.

They track perfectly, glass on par with european glass, even though slightly narrower field of view.

I have two:

The 5-40x FFP is awesome for a tactical rifle.
The 8-80x SFP is the cats ass on a benchrest rifle.

I have thought about getting a March-F for a lightweight/compact rifle.

Re: March F Scopes

Only 5 year warranty due to some crazy law/code from Japan - Kelbly's states that they & Deon Optical will stand behind them long past the 5 year warranty.

Awesome glass in a very compact package!!

Re: March F Scopes

I sold a PMII 4-16x50 for a March 3-24x42!!! For the exact reasons your looking to!!!
worst idea ever!!! I was so disappointed with the 3-24x42

reticle way too thick
poor in low light
tinny exit pupil at high mag
Image goes Dark at high Mag
fussy parallax adjustment
terrible field of view

I could go on and on

all critical flaws in a scope of this quality! If you Sold your PMII thinking your going to get the same performance out of the March in a smaller package..... You'll be wrong

My advise is, look through a March first they are not for everyone make your own mind up.
I compared it against my own , PMII's, Hensoldts Premiers, and others for a couple of months (not a 5 min look at the range) trying to like it, but in the end i couldn't sell it quick enough

Re: March F Scopes

I can't offer the direct comparison between the two scopes you mention. However, I can say that I am satisfied with my March 3-24 x 42 mm. Turrets are 10 mil per rotation (convenient), solid click, and wide grip. Glass is crystal clear. Image IS darker at 24 than at lower magnifications, but how could it be otherwise. Reticle is thick at 24x, but this is classic problem for FFP scopes, compounded by one that ranges over 3 - 24x. Make the reticle thinner and it will be invisible at 3x.

I have no issues with parallax adjustment. They have the most straight forward zero stop I've seen.

Sounds like you would do well to get your hands on the March before selling your SB.

To Kruger21: Where you dissatisfied with the March at 16x, the highest your SB went to?

I bought 2x Premier Hunter 3-15x50 GenII XRs!! They are a great scope, couldn't be happier, I only really need 12mils max for the shots i'm taking, thought i'd need more mag but so far so good, better glass, field of view, exit pupil than the March, GenII XR is one of my favourite reticles but is very fine at the lower end. GenII Mil dot would be a better choice if shooting on lower power more.

There are always trade offs with scopes ie too big, too heavy, not enough mag, not enough elevation, reticle choice etc Pick what are the "must haves" and what you can "live without" and go from there

Cheers

Yeah i really was dissatisfied with the March on all levels except its size and build quality. I really wanted it to work, a scope that size and with those features whats not to like.... Sure its not bad around 16x like the PMII but the glass isn't as good, poor in low light, reticle is about 3x thicker and smaller field of view and not as forgiving in the exit pupil!! Why bother

I'd probably like the March if i didn't know any better but being lucky enough having Hensoldt's ,S&B, Premiers, Kahles, USO etc I do!! and the March wasn't for me

Cheers

Re: March F Scopes

I have both the March 3X24 and 5X40 scopes and love them both. Great glass and solidly built. All metal and glass internal parts. Size of each is amazing compared to other premium scopes. Reticle thickness and exit pupil size can be addressed by using lower magnifications. Still before making the switch, it would be a good idea, if you could try one at a range. Still not very common, but catching on, so keep your eyes peeled. Don't miss my old boat anchors. Kelby's Rifles were great to deal with. March F 3X24 42mm nonilluminated $2260 and March FX 5X40 56mm nonilluminated $3200 shipped and insured. Illuminated versions available for a few hundred more. Only took a few weeks to get-a big plus over most other premium scopes which may take months to get.

Re: March F Scopes

I am amazed by my FX 5-40. The 56 glass/34mm tube lets in so much light, at 40x it is still bright. The quality is superb. The .05mil/click is a bit too fine for most scenarios, but can be fun to play with. Overall, I'd say without reservation, it is the finest FFP optic I've ever looked through.

Not that my SN doesn't illustrate my bias enough...

Re: March F Scopes

I have a March 3-24 FML-1, I really like it but it's on it's way back to Japan. due to my old eyes I was running out of focus at long range and high power. This thing will focus crystal clear at six yds. Although that is a neat feature I would rather have the extra adjustment on the other end. Anyway I Emailed Deon and got an answer the next day. The problem was explained and they told me to Express mail it to them and it would be changed to fit my eyes at no charge.

I had the same problem with US Optics and they too were very helpful.
