G'day Fellas, I tried a search and came up with zip, even though I know Ive read a thread about the March optics on here somewhere.

Anyway, Im looking into upgrading to one of these and wanted to know if anyone has had a good play with one yet. If so what are your thoughts, pro's/cons etc. I like the 10 factor mag range in such a compact package (compared to the 5-25x56 PMII), the amount of internal adjustment they provide in a low profile turret and the optical clarity (from the photos anyway).

Would like to hear from anyone that put one of the Tacticals through its paces.

cheers,

JJ

Interested to hear as well! Don't hear much about them, they are a nice scope from what I know, I think the only thing that holds them back from being popular around here is the 1 year warranty doesn't match the price tag.

Re: March Optics 2.5-25x42 Mil/Mil Tactical

They have a 5 year warranty, and yeah that was one of my concerns as well for a $3600 optic. Im not sure about the FFP/SFP, Ive spoken to Stuart Elliot, the Distributor of them over here, but cant remember what he said, I know that all the Benchrest and longrange models are SFP, but will have to double check on the Tacticals.

cheers,

JJ

Re: March Optics 2.5-25x42 Mil/Mil Tactical

Currently, all of March scopes are SFP. However, they are coming out with an FFP model and I am supposed to get one for a quick look during the next couple of weeks.

They are indeed expensive scopes and they do have weaknesses. But they also have considerable strengths. In my mind, the strengths outweigh the weaknesses, but I only got to that point after I spent some time with one. Before that, I thought that SFP and the warranty outweighed the strengths. However, I was sufficiently impressed with the model I looked at to change my mind. I still prefer FFP scopes and I am looking forward to an FFP March, but even as is, it is mighty tempting.

Nice, well ill give Stuart a call this afternoon and see if the model he has is FFP or SFP, but im guessing itll be the SFP. The big winner for me would be the size, compared to the 5-25 S&B, this wouldnt be to much optic for a walkaround varmint rifle, where as the schmidt would look like a spotting scope strapped to the top.

The FFP/SFP is really a moot point as i dont see myself milling targets to often and if I did I would have the time to change the mag to 10x.

Thanks for input mate,

JJ

Re: March Optics 2.5-25x42 Mil/Mil Tactical

I currently own a March 2.5-25x42 and love it. Really a great design and glass and tracks very well, very well. I am looking forward to the FFP version and will most likely run then on all three of my comp guns.

I also own/ed a PH 3-15, PH 5-25, Hensoldt ZF 4-16x56mm, USO TPal, USO 3.8-22x, Bushnell 6500, and Zeiss... so far the March is my favorite scope, just miss the FFP.

Re: March Optics 2.5-25x42 Mil/Mil Tactical

Actually Jester miling targets is the least thing I use the FFP reticle for and the same for most people I know using FFP. Holds for both elevation and windage and moving targets are much more important reason for FFP. I used to run SFP scopes years ago when that's about all that was around but I'll never go back to a SFP scope for a tactical rifle scope.

Let us know how the FFP model comes out. It's a good looking scope.

+1
on what Rob said. Yes having the ability to range at all magnifications is great if needed, but that being said, You having the ability to use holdoff be it for movers, elevation, or wind and not having to do ratio math, especially under stress, is the main advantage of FFP for me

Re: March Optics 2.5-25x42 Mil/Mil Tactical

what Rob01 said.....again.

I just don't see the huge drw between 2.5-25 and the very good 5-25's already out there.

I think a 1.5-15 would be a nice range though, because I prefer top end of at least 14X in any magnified optic I'm gonna bother with.

Re: March Optics 2.5-25x42 Mil/Mil Tactical

I agree Sobr. I rarely go below 8x on my 5-25s so going much lower wouldn't be much help to me but maybe if someone wanted a hunting/tac scope it might work as the new 3-20x S&B will give shooters who need it more low end which still giving a good high end.

Re: March Optics 2.5-25x42 Mil/Mil Tactical

Rob, I agree, and I admit that was one aspect I actually hadnt considered, mainly because of the lack of Tac orientated comps over here, I was tunnel visioned with paper shooting and hunting creatures, not the running and gunning side.

Ill let you know what Stuart says when he gets back to me.

Appreciate the input fellas

cheers,

JJ

</div></div>I think a big benefit to the March scope is that it is a much more compact package than the current 5-25 offerings.

100% agree, the March looks like a kids toy on my rifle after shooting a USO and PH.

I think they should make the 5-32x52 with 10 mil knobs and FFP.... I would love it.
