Ok, so I have not heard from my #1 in while and he finally sends a quick message and he's gone again.

He's with the 3/6, Helmand.

</div></div>

May I ask, "What or why is he pooping in a plastic bag?

Inquiring minds need to know.

Thank you,

It might be toooooo rocky to dig a good slit trench or he had to crap while on mission in the vehicle ie couldn't stop so crap in the bag and chuck. Gotta do what you gotta do!

No biggy but sucks.

Re: Marine dad here needs some feed back

You poop in the bag for sanitation reasons. The ground is very hard and rocky so cat holes aren't happening, and they don't put much money into the camps to build up the infrastructure for sewage and such. Poop in the bag, tie it off, and they get hauled off for off-site disposal. Also a lot better than having to burn the shit drums.... Anyone that has ever had to grab a can of diesel and a stir pipe knows that for sure!

Re: Marine dad here needs some feed back

BTDT, we all got 'the duty' on a rotating basis back in 'Nam. "I love the smell of diesel (and burning fecal matter) in the morning...". You could always see a US base on the horizon; it had this column of thick black smoke pointing right to it. Night patrols would use it to navagate back home in the morning. "Hey Private, you lost? Which way is the S**t Cloud?". No doubt it helped the VC/NVA get a rough zero for their mortars, too; which may have something to do with why they're avoiding the quaint practice these days.

Re: Marine dad here needs some feed back

That he's pooping in a baggie probably means he's at such a small outpost that they don't have porta-potties. Either that or the nearest one is so far from his bunk that he'd sooner TCOB in a bag than walk that far (in the heat and the dust/mud [pick one]). That he mentions the pee tubes also tells me what porta-potties there are are few and far between.

They generally only have porta-potties where they have a staff of TCNs to maintain them. The TCNs use a truck like this one to collect the refuse and dispose of it:

These guys were dumping their load through a small hole in the west wall of Camp Fallujah in Iraq prepared for the purpose. This was the only place I saw them dumping it back into the environment.

It's got to go somewhere and I'd bet the used bags are going to a burn pile.

He was attached with the 3/6 and who he is with now I'm not sure.
He's a combat engineer involved with route clearance. One of the
vehicles he rides in. He loves his job.
That's all I know.
