Marshal dead in shootout in Charlotte

Suspect's name has been released. Terry Clark Hughes Jr.

No picture yet. But I'm fairly sure it's this same person who was 27, 12 years ago when the article was written. The name release says he's 39 as of today. So......fair chance.

I'll delete if it turns out to be someone else of the same name in the same area.

Here’s the thing, and thank you for locating this older news story about the subject in question. Story mentions one of the charges as being possession of a firearm by a felon. There is more prior criminal history here, violent people need to do hard time and not skid-bids. If this turd of a human being was in prison where he belonged these officer funerals wouldn’t have to be planned. I put blame on the courts and DA’s for allowing these career criminals the ability to remain in our society. This is another tragedy that didn’t need to happen, not Monday morning quarterbacking these people need to remain in prison.

Is there any evidence that the deceased felon had been convicted of anything violent?

All I see on that news article are drugs and running from the police, and they were at his house for a felon in possession of a firearm.

I am not saying he does not have a violent felony history (I do not know), but I do not believe firearms offenses and drug offenses should even be offenses. Crimes and prison should be for those who harm others, robbers, rapists, murderers, kidnappers, thieves, fraudsters, that sort of thing.

Back in January, Terry Clark Hughes Jr, 39, led officers on a high-speed chase, according to Lincoln County Sheriff Bill Beam. One of his officers tried to pull over Hughes. But rather than slowing down, he “took off,” the sheriff told WCNC.

The car chase was ultimately called off when a police officer noticed the Hughes’ vehicle was registered to a woman.

Four months later, Hughes opened fire on officers as they approached his home on April 29 trying to serve him warrants. He was wanted for possession of a firearm by felon and felony flee to elude.

Hughes was fatally shot during the exchange.

Yes, Sen, Joe McCarthy, and later Yuri Bezmenov, were right.
Our first kenyan president paved the way. When he as a senator in Illinois, he was a member of two parties. The Democrat Party and the New (Socialist) Party. A card-carrying solcialist, literally. And that was in the papers at the time, not a theory ginned up in Mom's basement.

Hughes Jr.’s criminal history reveals a lengthy list of charges, arrests, and time spent in county jails. He’s served just under two years in the North Carolina state prison system.

His most recent period of incarceration ended IN 2013 after he was sentenced as a felon in possession of a firearm, the same charge police said the task force was preparing to arrest him for on Monday.

According to the court records, some of Hughes’ more recent charges between 2020 and 2022 have been dismissed or appear to be stagnant.

A 2021 charge in Mecklenburg County for fleeing and eluding arrest was “dismissed with leave,” according to court records, but is really pending until law enforcement arrested Hughes again for skipping court.

A 2020 charge for driving with a revoked license was dismissed because the Mecklenburg District Attorney’s office was “unable to prioritize prosecution due to the COVID-19 Court Closure.”

A 2021 arrest on a multitude of marijuana charges was dropped as the Mecklenburg DA’s office started dismissing low-level offenses after the pandemic.

There are similar charges with similar outcomes in Person and Alamance Counties.

There does not appear to be anything to warn the officers that Terry Clark Hughes Jr. was a particularly dangerous threat when serving a warrant. He had a history of running. No history of violence.

Crimes are all drugs or fleeing and this one felon in possession of a firearm warrant.

Let me approach this from a slightly different angle; eventually a news organization will post his Terry Clark Hughes Jr complete NC criminal history, now taking into consideration what we do know thus far, how many interactions are reported compared to getting away with it? It Is unclear to me at this time if a SWAT like team was initially on scene for this warrant or if it was the fugitive team. Seeing plainclothes officers with ARs and body armor is common place these days. Bearcat and BDU’s tells me a different threat assessment was made in the planning stages. With the investigators sorting through everything from the crime scene it may take a moment before a detailed report is available.

How many criminals are given an opportunity to plea bargain a violent felony down to simple assault? So unless you dig deeper and pull arrest/conviction and compare them side by side then you know the real story. Along the same lines how about dropped charges because the criminal is smart enough not enough evidence to convict (OJ) by a jury.

If we can’t keep firearms from defective or stupid people that give the 2A community embarrassment why should we be willing to give the Right to firearms to Citizens found guilty of felony crimes? I’m not apposed if previously convicted felons petition the court to have the 2A Right restored but to simply pick and choose which felonies would not disqualify a Citizen from possessing firearms no I disagree with this.

So the guy mostly known for fleeing and eluding went John Wick and killed a few federals and a local and then after he was unalived a ghost person probably with a ghost gun shot and killed a few more and then vanished into the ether?

I don’t even need to rush to wild conclusions to know something fucky has happened

I don't see simple assault, either. Nothing violent even on the misdemeanor side of things, but, like you said, I do not have his criminal history. I am literally just reading those news reports that I posted above.

But the news reports immediately right after a shooting have never, ever been wrong before, have they?

I understand your opinion of the ATF, but what did they have to do with your buddy’s arrest/conviction?
I was responding to a post that the ATF should concentrate on "felons" and was pointing out now that a felony can be a victimless crime and that someone can be a felon even though the law they are charged with is clearly unconstitutional.

As a member of The Former Texas Rangers Assn. with ancestors that were former Rangers, I'd like to know the details about that.
2016: While sitting in Iraq I get a call from my friend and coworker stated that he had spent the better part of the last week in jail and would not be heading back over. At the time we were doing requals for our work in northern VA and PA. He was divorced and his kids were in NJ, so while he was home and going between locations, he went to visit them on his limited time. He had his personal weapons (AR15, Glock, mags, and some kit) unloaded in his trunk and got pulled over. When asked if he had any guns in the car he told them...and prompty got arrested. Not only did they take his guns, they took all his gear which wasn't illegal. (Of course they did the whole "we feel bad but it's the law" BS. He lost his 6 figure job, his TS clearance, and tons of opportunities. The deal made though his attorney was that if he had no trouble for 8 years he would be eligible to have the charges expunged, and that 8 years was 2 months ago. He has now done so, 8 years later and has had some of his gear returned to him.

Gotcha. Thought you were saying the ATF had something to do with what happened to your friend and was just asking what their involvement was.

I never said those wars were FOR the U.S.

I'm saying Ali wasn't going to join other Americans that were called to serve, for his own selfish America hating reasons. He wouldn't have gone even if there was a war FOR the U.S.

"I ain't no senators son". Does that ring a bell?
Do you think that he hated America or the government?
If the government comes out tomorrow and says that they are drafting men and women from 18 to 45 to go to Ukraine and stop Putin from taking over the EU and then the world. If you refuse it's jail. What are you going to tell your kids?

Thats different. Only because the cover has been pulled back showing how corrupt the government is. Most didn't realize that back in the 60's, regardless of how radical the hippes were.

We started really looking hard at the government back during H.W.s presidency, or at least the smarter ones did including myself. By the end of the Clinton's two terms we knew what direction the Left was trying to take the U.S.

Today, if they told my kid they needed to go fight in Ukraine to save the Deep State's tax money laundering racket, I'd tell them to go fuck themselves.

But none of this has anything to do why Ali refused to be drafted into the military. He was not some noble, brave conscientious objector.

Ali was a scumbag extraordinaire- hated white people and "non-muslim blacks" alike.
White people, the most civilized best people that is America, were in no mood to suffer his anti-American rhetoric right after 9/11.

He was really crawfishing, saying he loved America. Most all America hating trash behave when confronted.

He even hated blacks that didn't hate white people, calling Floyd Patterson and others that got along with whites Uncle Tom.

He punished and humiliated Patterson sadistically in the ring because of it.
Totally off thread topic, but I read Uncle Tom's Cabin a couple 6-8 years ago. I was confused by what I got out of the book. I always understood a black 'Uncle Tom' to be a sellout, but if you read the book the character Uncle Tom was anything but. Uncle Tom believed in Jesus and the word of God so much he refused to do evil. He would not fight back against his oppressors nor use violence to defend himself though he had plenty of opportunity. He tried to emulate Jesus as best an uneducated and subjugated man could. Great fucking book.

Anyone who uses Uncle Tom as a disparaging term is either ignorant, or just plain old evil.

I know what Jesus wants me to do, but there are definitely situations where I'm going to do what I think needs to be done and I'll just answer for it when the time comes. I understand God saying vengeance is mine, but I'm a bit of a rebel and a damn sinner. Uncle Tom is how Jesus wishes I could be, but I ain't that good...

He hated getting sued for sounding like himself after he was out of CCR.

We have not needed the draft since then. Look how many people volunteered for a 20 something year war in the sandbox for arguably less clear reasons. People were eventually deployed to there who were not yet born when we got to Afghanistan because a bunch of saudis (a few from UAE) killed 8 guys averaging 6 foot or taller and about a buck 80 apiece with prior military training and flew commercial airliners at over Mach 1 at sea level with no dutch roll. Seriously, flight 175 was clocked at 521 knots before impact, a few hundred feet about the Hudson River, essentially sea level when the actual structural limit of UA 767s is 360 knots.

I am not disagreeing that this would be wrong but I also agree with Heinlein. A nation that refuses to defend itself deserves to perish and we have been fighting the commies for a long time, and for good reason.

Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq, Afganistan...any war where American military and recources were sent,
Ali wouldn't have participated, especially if it meant fighting his fellow Muslim.

He'd come up with some BS excuse about he didn't have anything against those (insert whomever we were fighting) people, that none of them ever called him a nagger.
just my .02 but i think a case can be made for korea and gulf 1. banana wars,ww1,ww2,vietnam,iraq,afganistan were total put up jobs by the communists, industrialists, nation builders, many others. and before anyone jumps on pearl harbor, understand that the things roosevelt was doing vis a vis japan are rather minor compared to the stuff biden has pulled on russia. be glad we are not already in a nuc exchange with russia. the japs were stupid to attack us and a lot of their high command (in their navy) knew it,not just yamamoto.

yes and fraudsters are as bad or worse than FTF robbers. they ruin many, many peoples lives via stealing life long gained resources. all they get is usually a trip to club fed at worst. they should go into gen pop at their state's big bad guy prison. violent crimes should obviously be harshly sanctioned. if a gun is used in a violent crime,it's a violent crime. if you or a voluntary, willing buyer is hurt by drugs-tough shit.

Ok, I misunderstood which 'Ranger' you were talking about. I thought you were talking about a former Texas Ranger. I thought, WTF is a Ranger doing in NJ?

Ali was a gifted boxer, probably the best for most of his career. But I believe he was intellectually 'unbalanced', that is, brilliant as a fighter but outside the ring almost childlike in some ways.

Arrogant, brash, racist and hate filled towards whites and America, I think even Ali knew he wouldn't make it in the military. He would not have tolerated a DI of any color getting in his face, much less a white DI or officer. Plus, the military would have unvailed the mystic he lived behind.

Observing the scene of the shootout on Thursday, Mikels noted the suspect "who attacked these law enforcement officers had a higher ground," shooting upon officers from the second floor of the house, from both the front and back sides.

“He who occupies the high ground…will fight to advantage.” Sun Tzu

On accessible terrain,
He who occupies high Yang ground
And ensures his line of supplies
Will fight to advantage.

On precipitous terrain,
If we occupy it first,
We should hold the Yang heights and wait for the enemy.
If the enemy occupies it first, do not go after him,
But entice him out by retreating.[1]

Don't forget Jesus fashioning a whip and driving the money changers from the church. For everything there is time. And sometimes it's time whoop some ass.

Now I know something isn’t adding up with how quickly this story has disappeared from news coverage.
Maybe in a year they will hold a press conference to say they won’t talk about it or answer any questions for another year like “they” did after Vegas concert shooting .

Not much on details that weren't already known but here's a picture of the house
