I'm trying to identify the caliber of my fathers Mauser. The following are markings on the rifle and measurements I took from it:

Barrel and action are marked G4725.
The bolt is marked G2144.

Mauser Argentino 1891 Loewe Berlin is on the action.

There are what appears to be two hands shaking stamped on the barrel and bolt.

The diameter of the bore at the muzzle is .308.
The diameter of the bolt face is .478.

I can not find any data in my Speer loading manual.
I think it may be 7,65 according to Wikipedia.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Mauser Identification

While it's not impossible that it has been converted, the caliber should be 7.65x53, or as it's usually referred to; "7.65 Argentine".

I think this is the safest option. Thanks for the input.
