Covid 19 cancelled the family vacation to Utah so son and I are planning a camping trip.

Have a North Face two person that serviceable but pretty old. The crappy viyl windows have deteriorated and are now pretty much 90 mile per hour tape.

Anyone have any tentage they are looking to get rid of?

Maybe something bigger than the two person footprint, like the idea of tent clipping to poles, no fabric tunnels if possible, vestibules are cool, whats out there not being used.

I love shit like the LiteFighter single man tents that make it on here from guys that were issued them. Great tent.

Id get him his own issue LiteFighter/TCOP or something similar but as the son is kind of a city kid, we will be sharing a tent rather than trying to fit both of us in one, one man, tent when the Bard Owls or coyotes start going bat shit in the middle of the night........I get scared .

When I really want a tent I want small, light weight, built like a brick shit house.

We will be trucking into the woods with a Ranger 4 seater so Ill have the luxury of going heavy.

For these three nights use Im looking for something "to get us by" but if someone dragged out a high speed 2/3 man or something cool its easy to get me to spend with a more long term outlook.

This planned trip taking its place will be in my estimation "Glamping" as I intend to bring a shit ton of gear to improve our campsite.

We have camped this place before, friends farm, midst of 1000 acres, right beside a sweet brook. I intend to work the lad as we are going to chain saw some felled wood, improve the brook beach area, have him work on his ability to shit in the woods/field hygiene do some hikes yet we vwill have a full array of Coleman lantern and stoves Ive been buying cheap on Ebay.

That wall tent would be right in line with the type of camping we will do but Im loathe to buy a new wall tent. I tend toward solo camping, or better stated solo tenting...he would have his, I would have mine.....and in the solo camping area Im good to go with a LiteFighter.

If wife and daughter were coming Id probably go for a fresh wall tent but the logistics of adding those two would be a whole nuther magnitude of difficulty. Id be making 5-6 trips from the starting point to the camping point hauling shit.

With just two of us I think I can get all our gear in one trip.

Nother member has a Kelty 4 person that sounds promising at a price I could probably just burn it in place and move on after using it. That might be what I seek. It would be serviceable but it wont satisfy my high speed desires. My son wont care one way or the other.

I'm not looking to sell, but I've been using a kifaru megatarp and tut teepee. Both are super light and can be set up in a few minutes. Both have stove jacks essentially making them 4 seasons. If bugs are a major concern, then I'd probably lean towards seekoutside. They make a full nest for their shelters. With that being said, you can buy bug nets/nest from a third party for kifaru. Kifaru 100% supports hunters and shooters.

And as @tashle1 can attest, the Kifaru shelters can handle the elements with some good staking and guylines.

Having used a number of top end mountaineering tents (TNF Mountain Tent, Bibler, Mountain Hardware, and Hilleberg), I would go Kifaru unless camping at super nasty cold temps way above treeline.
Then a full on mountaineering tent is pretty nice.

The North Face two man would work but if we get wet weather the added space will be good.

Kifaru shelters are bombproof inside of the timberline. I've used mine 9000' feet in Idaho to hunting ducks on the Louisiana delta. We just run thermacells inside the tent if mosquitoes get bad.

Kelty stuff works great. I have one of their tarps for car camping.
And use their Redwing backpack (got it for free!) to carry my folder shorty AR and some spare mags around here. Keeps me blending in with good Denver camo......

That's good to know.

It was a hard used tent, went on lots of motorcycle trips when I was enjoying that hobby.

Im kind of thinking I may have got my money's worth out of it and wouldn't feel right with replacement.

Fabric is still good if faded. I would be happy if they just put fabric where the vinyl windows dry rotted out and call it good.

Truthfully though if the fams ever wanted to get back in to camping I'd look for something more high speed.

I love the LiteFighter single when I go alone but it is kind of a coffin size wise. It's the tent I'd take if I had to carry it.

A two man tent is best for my single use stuff as I'm either packing it on a motorcycle or in the back of a Ranger. The bit of extra room is nice to have a specially if weather is in the air.

That would be a mansion for two people camping unless your packing in cots and all the comforts of home.

Have a 2 person for 3 season car camping. Mine has a nice vestibule so good for summer backpacking too, if there is weather to be expected.

Usually carry my 3 lb sierra designs and a tarp though. Then not confined to the tent in weather.

Look up top at the "Glamping" we intended in Utah.

Ill be doing a photo post, you will see Im bringing the kitchen sink.

No cots though - Thermarests, which really are not restful.

Its a LiteFighter 1 man - great tent, big vestibules, lots of set up options, light.

Used it once when @Rob01 and @NOMAD taught a rifle class in MA.

I slept on top of the 1000 yard berm and this was my view....

Close to full moon rose over that ridge that night, beautiful out. Had the place to myself, all the other attendees stayed in town.

I used my solitude to reticle out a range card while eating dinner...

Camping can be pretty luxurious if you figure it out.

Spring Turkey hunting camps. 1st thing I ld is tent, cot, 6’ folding table to cook on and clutter up and my Mr Buddy heater. Nothing like waking up in a cold tent, turnin htr on and 5 min later gettn dressd in a warm tent standing completely upright. Life’s lil pleasures

Not lightest. My most used one is the downmat 9.
High R value for cold weather. Amazing sleep on 3.5” of well managed softness. Adjusted right, I sleep really well.

Of course, most of my days are long and exhausting, so that helps.....

Works good car camping too though.

I got the fat "luxury" therma rests for the wife and I. Good insulation from the cold ground but my "Princess and the Pea" self will occasionally find something under the tent that ruins the experience.

A big gihunta ass REI Hobitat 4 with all the fixins....

Again not my idea of high speed or roughing it but the price was too good and it would possibly get the other two family members to come with us on the next trip.

Covid 19 continues maybe camping is all we wil get for vacation.
