Maybe our politics are not the biggest threat to our existence....

While I'm the first to state that I know what I don't know,,,, I do know that one (1) person of whatever training saying "maybe" is practically nothing to think about or pay attention to.

Keep in mind, it was "quite a number" of 'learned professionals' whom stated that the world was going to end in 2000. Remember the Y2K scam?

Sure, this isn't the same thing. But it is the same media, and it is the same scare tactics, and it is the same hype.

Just my 2 cents.

Uh, Y2K was about the possible inability of computerized systems and their databases to handle the millenial hop.

Yeah, that's what I said.

All them basement dweller's who wouldn't be able to ever connect to the innerwebz again, or drive cars, or even use a vcr anymore. Their world would end, because of the microchips. Ergo, total and complete anarchy.

:D

same/same.

I think Reeses should pay them to shoot peanut butter and chocolate for marketing purposes.

You guys don't read enough a Sci-fi, or I've read too much. Scientist and sci-fi author David Brin wrote a great book about this very thing in 1990. While not a true "black hole" in terms of size and power, a singularity could be created. There are real scientists today that actually work on theories of power generation by controlling singularities.

I made a ton of money on Y2K reading every line of source code in our customer's software database, and certifying that the code was Y2K-Tolerant. Not one line of code needed revision.

If you've got the time and can stand the Nerdspeak, this series of lectures at the Royal Institute will calm your hormones.

Cutting to the chase, the LHC can and probably has created Black Holes already. They are infinitesimally small, on the order of the weight of a single Proton, and due to the inevitable, gradual natural dissipation of Black Holes, cannot remain in existence for more than a few microseconds. They just poof and emit a small amount of energy.

If you want to boggle your mind even beyond the generation of power from manufactured Black Holes, look up Vacuum Energy...

Stay calm, and continue buying ammo...

It all depends on the relative C-PCI of the treat.

So there I was, tapping away on the ole cellular device to send my buddy a text regarding WTF C-PCI is. In mid 'tap', there it is. Geezus H Krist that's funny. I woulda never guessed, more than likely. I hope nobody asks what it is...........

In quantum mechanics, I learned everything has a probability of occurrence....doesn't mean it will.

Good way to sell a book though...have to give him credit for turning a boring subject into a thriller...LOL

I've got this book...pretty popular. It's been amazingly accurate in it's predictions. Nothing about any black holes....although opening a bottomless pit is mentioned....could be something there. No mention of it destroying the world though.

2 questions..

How much money did we waist on this?
And if we are into deep problem solving, lets put the money used to answer
one of the oldest, most infinity complicated questions.
How the f*ck do you figure out a Woman?

One thing for sure, they stand completely outside the realm of Quantum physics, in a brave new field; tentatively labelled Wampum Physics.
