I'm going to install a Lilja 1.00" barrel in a CZ 457 Standard Varmint stock. My question is, do I start at the bottom of the channel with smaller socket/ sandpaper? Or, start at top of channel with final width of socket and sand paper needed. I just want to avoid the top finished edges from getting chipped or scuffed. I suppose I could tape off that top edges? I'm open to all suggestions / ideas! Thanks! (y)

either way will work. If you go small socket and follow with larger be careful you don’t cut a Chanel in the forend that’s out of round. If you go large all the way watch your top line to make sure you’re cutting evenly all the way down the barrel channel and not opening some spots up wider than others.

You can run yourself ragged with one of these Jerry Fisher scrapers as well. Nice even passes until it fits
