What is the best way to provide a vendor with proof of Military Service as it pertains to a Military discount .My Son is Active Duty and wants to order some gear online. Vendor wants a copy/photo of his Military ID .Two different Vendors asked for this "Proof" He has concerns as he is not regular ARMY. What is protocol . One is free shipping on all orders and the other is 10% off all orders . Helps a lot on Army pay. Are there any Reg's that will jam him up on this. What else could you use as Proof ?

Just a guess, and I've been out of the military for a long time...but if he's an activated reservist...he should still have a reserve ID and combine that with a copy of his orders? Maybe I don't understand...not Regular Army...active reserve or something else?

Not supposed to copy mil ID (CAC).

Many places will accept a copy of LES (suggest blacking out personal info)...S&W does this for their Nation's Finest Discount.

"According to Title 18, U.S. Code, Part I, Chapter 33, Section 701, the photocopying of military identification is illegal and violations of this law are punishable by a fine or imprisonment.

Section 701 states any engraving, photograph, print or impression in the likeness of any such badge, identification card, or other insignia or any colorable imitation thereof, except as authorized under regulations made pursuant to law, shall be fined not more than $250 or imprisoned not more than six months, or both."

We get told evertrime we travel to not let anyone copy our cac. People have even gotten in trouble for blowing them up on the copy machines as a joke when we forget them in the computers.

I'm only DoD/DoN though

Thank you my Son was also directed by CO to review this. This is what I was after .

Easiest way is to send the vendor and email from a .mil/AKO account. I have done it that way several times with different vendors over the years to gain Mil pricing, etc to validate affiliation.

Per recent alaract no dod employee is allowed to send a copy of their military id to any business . Only services allowed are ones run under dod and soldier will know when to.

You can email from their respective services email I.e army is army.mil or @mail.mil

We will go the email route . These vendors both requested copy of ID . I sent link and they both said they stand corrected and will accept email from Military address.
Thanks.

CAC is a CAC . front copy shouldn't be a big deal, just has name/rank/branch/photo

No, No, No, NO!!!
I worked a huge identification theft ring that all started when an Air Force officer emailed a copy of his CAC.
In my case file, I now have dozens of copies of his CAC. His photo, different names and ranks.
I can't even begin to describe the problems this has caused for Defense Manpower Data Center.

The best suggestion was the one to use his AKO email as proof.
