Rifle Scopes MOA needed for a S&B PII

I own a Surgeon 591 Repeater chambered in .308 and it has a fixed 20MOA base built-in.

I am looking for a rifle scope and was focusing on the Schmidt and Bender 3-12x50 or a 4-16X50.

However, I read on 6MMBR that those two scopes require a 29MOA base or you would have zeroing problems as well as lose a significant amount of MOA adjustment.

Does this hold true for the .308? And is there anything that can be done to eliminate this problem?

If not is it worth looking at an entirely different scope or will performance reduction be minimal.

I run an S&B 3-12 on my FN SPR A3g. It comes with a 20 MOA base...as I recall. 308 rifle. I've had no problems, but I haven't been out to 1000. I bet I have it though.

How far you want to shoot?

If it's a single turn, then you will likely not have enough travel at 1000yds. If it's double turn, then you're fine. That should leave you with at least 22Mils or so depending on where you zero the scope.

1000 yards would be the maximum distance I would want to shoot with this rifle.

I was planning on going with the double turn knobs, so I guess that seems like it will give me some good adjustability.

Single vs Double Turn. Didn't think about that. My post was basically useless without this data-point: I have a double-turn knob.

I was messing with the elevation turret on my S&B last night and I have 15+ mils left on elevation. I am zeroed at 100 yards.

A single turn 4-16x50 with a 20moa base has no problem whatsoever reaching 1000 yds on a .308. If you need more than 13 mils, then your 308 load is extremely anemic.

I'm at 2700FPS with a 168 grain bullet. Never been to 1000 or beyond 400 yet. But I would like the option once I get the data squared away.

Unless that is a Berger 168, a scope forged by mighty Thor himself coupled with data squared by Einstein will not give you the option of shooting 1000 with any degree of accuracy. You may want to rethink your bullet choice.

Eric you are to funny but very true I witnessed bullets hitting paper sideways at 1000yds last year at tbrc out of 308 with 168gr bullets step up to the 175 and you will.be fine.

Yep. I figured as much and plan on working up data on a 175 sometime this year. I am acquainted with a SWAT Sniper guy who runs 168 as his duty ammo. I recall anyway. We were chatting and he mentioned shooting at Quantico, VA and his bullets were just dying down at sea level. It was a very interesting story.
