Dear Lowlight:

With regards to the recently-removed thread, I am posting this to ask you to reconsider the site's stance on what is, and is not allowed to be posted in the social sections of SH. While I could have sent this to you via PM, I felt a public posting would be more appropriate, so as to allow for other members to offer their input as well.

I recognize the fact that this is a privately-owned website, and that you can say or do whatever you like as its owner.

I am asking that you consider the social sections as areas of the site which are "Protected by the 1st Amendment".

Outside of the United States, many people in the world do not have the ability to safely exercise their Right to Free Speech. In some countries, publicly-expressing "the wrong viewpoint" is a criminal offense. In some places, at various times, it has even resulted in an automatic death sentence for the offending party.

The United States was founded as a haven for people who were persecuted, censored, or otherwise under the rule of tyrants and despots. The spirit of the Founding Documents was to create a level playing field by which all citizens had an equity stake in the well-being of the nation.

Unfortunately, our Constitution and Bill of Rights have been under systematic attack for decades, by politicians, special interest groups, lobbyists, and the like.

In all cases, these factions have an agenda that is contrary to the notions of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, and the idea that all men are created equal.

This being the case, the security of our Rights is more necessary today than ever before, and for this reason, I humbly request that the site adopt a stance of firm support of the 1st Amendment in the Bear Pit, and Maggie's Drawers, provided that the members do not post material which is illegal, or otherwise causes risk or liability to you, the site itself, or other members here.

Thank you for your consideration.

Kind Regards,

Andre

Please, somebody, PM me and tell me WTF this wildfire is about? I think I've got the principal party tuned out, and I'd much rather not tune back in to find out and perhaps rekindle it.

Is this the beginning of a charming 'Bromance'?:ROFLMAO:

Andre, I agree with your post, yet there are some subjects, that just seem to push people beyond reason and logic, into emotionalism, and cause too much strife. Thats why religion is banned here...seems the subject in question is one as well and I respect LL's choice.

He needed a thread to show how us gun nuts are anti First Amendment.

It isn't that I would like to have this place be an absolute echo chamber. It's just that there are some things coming out of the mouths of those conniving to derail the Trump Administration, who concomitantly want to circumvent our Constitution, that I don't need to hear.

On a further note, as someone who's had their own internet connection since they were 12 years old, I have to say that communities that are run with 100% freedom and liberty NEVER work out. There are just too many folks who will hide behind their internet anonymity and abuse their freedoms because they know they'll never have to meet face to face. Like the old saying, give them an inch and they take a mile. If we had total freedom of speech here how long do you think it would take for the word to get out and we get trolls showing up here just to call other member's wives cheap cunts or member's children autistic faggots that should die in their sleep. While we do have the freedoms to say shit we normally couldn't at the more Liberal SJW gun sites, we NEED to keep a certain level of decorum here.

This is absolutely true. I'd add leftist ("Living Constitution" type) judges and weaponized federal bureaucracies who selectively enforce the law.

That's all irrelevant in light of:
I recognize the fact that this is a privately-owned website, and that you can say or do whatever you like as its owner.
I see a lot of different opinions here every post. I think the only thing most of us are of one mind on IS The Constitution, and since a lot of us swore an oath to protect and defend it that makes perfect sense.

google "Terminiello v. City of Chicago"

Well said youngster. The net is rife with keyboard commandos.

About half the people on this board are competitive marksmen. I've met quite a few people registered on this site at matches. "Who are you on The Hide?". It's only pretty recently I'm able to say, "Fig".

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

AndreC,

Have you taken that nicely written post and tried sending it to those that run say for example:
Facebook
Google
Twitter
Instagram

Any luck getting them to agree to let it be a free for all?

Perhaps you could start your own website dedicated to Free Speech without limits other than criminal limits as listed in USA law, and see how it goes, possibly invite us to come over and watch. I'd place a bet on how long before you either shut it down or started restricting things on it.

Or get busted for kiddy porn or bomb making tutorials or bullying causing a suicide to be committed. The Lawyers will kill your First Amendment site.

You left out the part about Hide members being accused of "Groupthink" at the end of the liberal's tirade(s). I always loved that accusation. Just because I found a line of reasoning to valid, logical and some others here felt the same way, somehow, we are all guilty of "Groupthink". Hmmm, whodathunkit ? Agreed, I don't need to hear their shit. BTDT, got the T-shirt and am just plain tired of it......Awww, shit.....now I'm gonna be accused of being closed minded.:ROFLMAO:

I wish people would actually talk about shooting and related things again on this site. I remember a time when political post were frowned upon.

That's reserved for the sub forums that aren't titled The Bear Pit and Maggie's Drawers.
I read them daily and usually end up here because it's more fun and way cheaper than hanging out in the PX.:D

I never once said "gun nuts (which I'm one of), are anti-1st Amendment"; the point I'm trying to make, is that our Rights are under constant assault already - and absolutely need to be protected. For what it's worth, having been in Lowlight's shoes (as a forum Admin), I understand that contentious subjects can cause problems (for members, and moderators/administrators), but the issue here is that a thread was removed on the basis of 1 person being offended by the content that 1 other person posted.

Rather than remove the offending material, the entire thread was 'memoryholed', which obviously prevents any meaningful dialog on a problem that is way more socially pervasive than most people realize, which is also probably every parents' worst fear.

The topic is especially discussion-worthy these days, since there are political operatives (in EU-land) attempting to normalize the behavior of these monsters, and gain social acceptance for it (because they, themselves are sexually abnormal).

It's Lowlight's site, he can do whatever he likes; I get it. I'm hoping I can bring about a small, but important change here, because we are already headed towards censorship and despotism in the real world, and make no mistake, as gun owners, we are the enemy of the people trying to control us.

Having a voice in the current political climate is extremely important, and something TPTB work very hard to take away from us, vis a vis "thoughtcrime legislation".

We're really in a world of trouble, if we cannot openly exchange thoughts and ideas, "among our own kind".

We can openly exchange thoughts and ideas among our own kind. Within the rules of the board.

For example, I’ve posted a shit ton of offensive things in socially unacceptable humor thread and been fine up until I found a gif of HRC.... how should I put this. “Engaged in an oral fight with a cockopotamus”

It was deleted because it violate the “no genitalia” rule.

Guess what, instead of bitching about my 1a rights on a private forum with rules, I texted to a bunch of people who wanted to see it.

It's why I can't post selfies. :ROFLMAO:

At a glance and honestly giving this more time and effort than it deserves, it would appear that the thread to which you are referring was deleted not by censors or moderators, but by the person who originally started it. That option exists in any thread any member starts outside of the PX sections. Hint.

You confirmed my suspicions. Much ado about pretty damned much nothing. Thanks.

SECOND REQUEST

Veer:

Last night, a thread was posted (don't remember who the OP was), about a TED talk video on Youtube, where some girl was talking about a kiddie diddler who "knows he's a kiddie diddler, but controls his impulses".

This lead to a halfway-intelligent discussion about "that subject", and most of us were on the same page, me included.

Somebody else, made some statement that "they can't help what they are", which prompted someone to report it (because they were offended), and the thread got "memoryholed".

A new thread appeared this morning "I guess things just disappear now" (or something like that), and my thread here, is in regard to that whole thing.

My point is, "censorship is a slippery slope", and while I posted it to encourage others to chime in (even if they disagree), I was hoping for more intelligent debate, as opposed to the results you see here.

I expected better from people since the subject of the Founding Documents deserves a high degree of respect, in my opinion. A lot of people have died for their belief in those Rights, and I felt my request was humble and respectful, intended in the spirit of "it never hurts to ask". It's a shame really.

The OP was referring to the first thread that was deleted. Not the second one that the author deleted himself.
