Dear Lowlight:
With regards to the recently-removed thread, I am posting this to ask you to reconsider the site's stance on what is, and is not allowed to be posted in the social sections of SH. While I could have sent this to you via PM, I felt a public posting would be more appropriate, so as to allow for other members to offer their input as well.
I recognize the fact that this is a privately-owned website, and that you can say or do whatever you like as its owner.
I am asking that you consider the social sections as areas of the site which are "Protected by the 1st Amendment".
Outside of the United States, many people in the world do not have the ability to safely exercise their Right to Free Speech. In some countries, publicly-expressing "the wrong viewpoint" is a criminal offense. In some places, at various times, it has even resulted in an automatic death sentence for the offending party.
The United States was founded as a haven for people who were persecuted, censored, or otherwise under the rule of tyrants and despots. The spirit of the Founding Documents was to create a level playing field by which all citizens had an equity stake in the well-being of the nation.
Unfortunately, our Constitution and Bill of Rights have been under systematic attack for decades, by politicians, special interest groups, lobbyists, and the like.
In all cases, these factions have an agenda that is contrary to the notions of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, and the idea that all men are created equal.
This being the case, the security of our Rights is more necessary today than ever before, and for this reason, I humbly request that the site adopt a stance of firm support of the 1st Amendment in the Bear Pit, and Maggie's Drawers, provided that the members do not post material which is illegal, or otherwise causes risk or liability to you, the site itself, or other members here.
Thank you for your consideration.
Kind Regards,
Andre
