Yea that happens around here about 4 or so times a year.Our local indoor range down here weapons are all secured in slides to keep them pointed down range after a couple of suicides......
The Imapct guns store I posted the picture of had a guy about 10 months ago who came in and looked at glock pistols for over an hour, then asked if the range had one for rent he could try, which they did. He fired 5 rounds down range and then put the gun to his head.
Another range a few miles away has a policy that if you show up alone, and with no gun or shooting paraphernalia you have to provide the phone number to a family member to ask about your mental state to rent a gun.
