Today there are less than 1000 survivors left that landed on Normandy. A 21yo soldier sailer airman would be 97 today.
Just remember that old timer with the cane and the gold braid on his hat had a set you could hear clank when he walked. buy him a coffee or a beer and smile for what he helped give to you!!

It's a good thing you didn't. While I had the utmost in respect for the Collings Foundation and what they did, the NTSB report was shocking to me. As an aircraft mechanic, I couldn't fathom what they did, or didn't do. Very sad. Especially since I was acquainted with the pilot who perished.
These things are hideously expensive to maintain and fly. I can only guess that the Foundation didn't have enough $$to do it right.

Yea I heard it was like $10k/hr to fly? That may be way off. I’ve toured 9-0-9 several times. What a shame. I’ve seen the FAA report but never actually read it.
