I saw a white great horned owl last winter while I was Elk hunting. Probably a once in a lifetime thing. He was sitting on the side of an outlet canal at a nearly empty lake. I walked around some Tamarisk and he was sitting there on the side of the canal about 30 feet away. I followed it for while trying to get a picture but it never let me get that close again.

I grew up just outside the driftless region in north central IL. I didn’t spend much time too far from home when I was younger but my wife has mentioned moving closer to family so I’m starting to research some of the hinterlands in sw WI or ne IA

SW Wisconsin. Game in the hills, trout in the creeks, peace and quiet. Taxes are likely cheaper in NE Iowa though.
