This is so true. I was 5 years old and ran passed a nail sticking out of a piece of wood. I ripped a 3 inch gashing wound to my leg. My dad packed me up, took me to my family doctor. He gave me a local and stitched me up in his office. Same thing happened when I was a teen. I clipped a cr's trunk with my head and put a nice 1 inch ripped wound just above my forehead. My brother in law took my shirt off, told me to hold it to my wound. Off we go to that same doctor. He shaved a little of my hair back and stitched it up again right in his office.

Shit... Now a family of 5 will check into the ER because they have a cold and cough.

My Dad was just like this. Once when I was around 6 years old, I crashed my bicycle. My right arm was in bad pain.
My mom had gone out shopping, and was not due home for some time. I come in crying, cradling my right forearm. My
Dad tells me to lay down on the couch and the pain will go away.
About four hours later, myMom comes back home. My arm is still hurting. I tell Mom what happened. She immediately starts laying into my Dad about why he did not take me to the hospital.
We go to the hospital. Fortunately, not broken, but bruised right Radius and Ulna. Took about 2 months to heal.

Shit this past summer my 5yo falls off the swing set I built him. I took him to a party that night and a hike the next morning. That night my wife convinces me to take him to the ER. Broken radius. I apologized to him in my Father of the Year acceptance speech, tho, so we’re good.

As a teenager, while hunting the southern Atchafalaya Basin swamp (Louisiana), I came upon a flooded area where an oil field rig/pump used to be. I managed to run a 10" 100d "spike" into my foot. I continued squirrel hunting, working my way back to my jeep. When I got home my father said it was only a small puncture - "the bleeding stopped so it couldn't be that bad." He poured some mercurochrome and put a band aid on it - a good cure-all.
My mother came home ... well, you know the drama. The doctor probed for awhile - OMG, the pain. Worse than when I stepped on the spike. I think I peed myself. Of course, afterwards he gave me a pain killer and some antibiotics. Kept my mouth shut around my father, afraid he would call me a pu**y.

We went barefoot in the summer when I was a kid. During the winter, my mother would wrap barbed wire around our feet so we would not slip on the ice:)

I remember a doc coming to my house to remove stitches from my forehead. Probably six or seven.

When the Berlin wall was first started I was living on a NATO base in West Germany, it would take us two days to dig a path out from the front door or half a day to dig out from the second floor windows. After digging out the only place to go was uphill. This base was home to the fighter / interceptor escorts for the waves of B52;s flying from the US and also shorter range nuke armed aircraft. I don't remember more than two days break from the alert siren and sometimes more than four times a day. Dad had it hard then, I only had to try and get to school.

I resemble that father of the year award... More than once unfortunately. My son was 14 or so and was helping me load a trackhoe, there was a hole in the deck. We had talked about it making sure he was aware of it and to stay away. He thought he was smarter than me and wanted to be on that side of the trailer, he fell thru the hole hurting his knee. Made him help me tie down the trackhoe told him if he was going to be dumb he better be tough.... Went to the dr about a week later with it still hurting him. Torn ACL and partially torn MCL immediate surgery. Boy I felt like a real POS not my proudest moment.

You really have to wonder how long mini Mikey would survive....

Another school shooting was prevented by an alert faculty.

I wish I could say that was shocking, but it's not. The school board is ready to address issues to non-issue subjects. Reminds me of the kid who was eating a pop tart in school and was suspended because some idiot said it looked like a gun and he pointed it at someone.

The world is coming to an end...……..

I had my ass beat with a belt for crying about my arm and it turned out broken several hours later.
