MV Published vs. Actual

I posted a range report in the ballistics section for my new CED M2, but figured this part would be interesting to some here:

Ammo:
SK Standard Plus 22LR
40gr
1050fps published

Rifle:
10/22
TacSol 16” Bull Barrel, 1/16 twist

Results:
High- 1041fps
Low- 973.1fps
Average- 997.55fps
Standard Deviation- 22.06fps

This was better than expected. As I was shooting from a 16” barrel, I was anticipating a much lower muzzle velocity average (in the 950 range was what I was thinking).

most of the published and actuals with most ammos through different barrel lengths that i've ran through a chrony don't match.

the closest i got was hornady 30 gr .22mag ammo.

The 22LR with its extremely small case capacity dosn't need much barrel length to get good velocity. If the barrel is too long the bullet will run out of puff and start to slow down due to friction
