Figured I’d share my most recent assembly with you all. It came out even better than my expectations. It’s light and should be handy in the deer woods. This started as a project where I wanted to slap the cheapest parts together and have a functioning rifle for deer hunting but as all of the rifles I’ve put together I spent more than I planed to. I guess I ended up with middle of the road quality as far as parts go but a lot of thought and research went into which ones I used. I think that’s half the fun. Anyway here is the build list:

JP lower receiver with their shop installed and tuned single stage trigger.
Vltor upper reciever
NB m16 carrier with a ARP superbolt
PWS gen 2 buffer tube
JP center ground buffer spring
Spikes 3.0 oz T1 buffer
ARP 14.7” barrel with a PWS triad gemtech quickmount compatible FH pinned and welded
SLR Sentry 7 adj gas block
Mid length gas
MI gen 3 12” rail
Magpul furniture
Trijicon AccuPower 1-8x28

I really like the jp trigger and the buffer spring and buffer are smooth as silk. If I had to guess I would say it weighs about 6 lbs without glass. I love the trijicon and I think it’s about perfect for this Cartrdiges capabilities but it’s a little on the heavy side and makes the rifle feel a bit top heavy.
Now I just have to find some reliable mags and work up some hand loads for testing.

Factory Hornady 110gr HPBT, 120SST and Federal Eagle 115gr all shoot pretty well out of those barrels. The Nosler bullets have to be set out pretty long to get decent accuracy. Seems like mine were 2.29-2.295 OAL. Lots of loading info on 68forums.

Nice looking rifle. I have shot a couple whitetail does with the original 6.8spc inside of 200 yards and the caliber did the job.
One question, why mix receiver brands?

As of a few years ago, I had every brand of 6.8 magazine made. Barrett was the clear winner. Flawless feeding, true advertised capacity, best finish, and best fit with my rifle. They were also the most expensive, but worth it. All the other magazines are only used for plinking now. When it matters, I only use the Barretts.

A while back I ordered a Vltor upper and lower reciever for another build I was doing. They sent me a upper that didn’t have a forward assist. Not really a big deal but I called them anyway and they had another reciever on the way within the hour. When I got it they forgot to send a return label so I called to see if they could email me one. To my surprise they said I could keep it if I wanted it.
So that’s how it ended up on this build. I wanted to try the JP trigger and I found a sale on their lower with the trigger already installed and tuned. It’s actually a very precise fit between the upper and lower so I made out in this situation and saved a few bucks.

Good to know. I was going to order a pri 10 rounder for now but I’m going to look into the Barrett for my hi cap mags.

I have been scouring the 68 forum for weeks. Your right lots of good info. That’s when I realized the 6.8 had quite a following.

I just sold mine. I really liked the round and the gun, but i have an AR 10 in 308 now so i let the 6.8 go. Anyway, i used barnes 95 gr ttsx for whitetail hunting, and they do the job. My buddy uses the same bullet with his and has had no complaints.

Been using the factory 120gr SSTs since I don't have time to reload, work great on deer. I'd have to check my notes but IIRC, around 2420fps.
