Night Vision N-Vision Optics Halo/Halo-LR Software Update Available

Max, I’ve only talked to them today about it. They said they could make it 6 inches long or whatever length needed. I’m not sure how it would look in person. I can ask them to provide a sample so I can send it to you for your review and consideration. They didn’t give me a timeframe on this. I’m waiting to hear back.

I’m thinking about 3D printing an low profile overmold.....took out the scope for first time last night, immediately broke the lens cap. Then killed 9 boars and 5 coyotes. Image is by far the best I’ve seen. Easily ID coyotes at 600yds.

That sounds promising. 3-D is the way to go. You can tweak it until you think it’s perfect.

I have complained about the cap is garbage they brake i broke 2 and I am not buying another one they are too expensive for what they are.

Do you think another brands objective lens cap might fit. Something like the pulsar cap or perhaps a different brand that is more ruggedly built.

The problem is that because it requires manual NUC you are opening and closing the cap a lot. This puts excessive strain and wear on the hinge area.

Take a look at the pulsar cap. Maybe something like this might be ok.

Other than the cap, what do you think of the halo overall? Image wise I can’t find something with the same image at that price. I wish they were in the $3k range, but beggars can’t be choosers.

The stress on the hinge is not the problem. The plastic is too brittle from the start is not a good material to make a Lens cover add inclement weather and that’s when they fail. They brake because the plastic gets even more brittle.
I will suggest a cover like the vortex caps or butler creek.

3k for this thermal is impossible I bet the core alone is that much is not like pulsar that they make their own cores. They are using a proven core like the Trijicon and running circles around their thermals.

the only complaint is the cap beside that this thermal is amazing. I had so many thermals in the past 3 years. That I settled with Halo Lr Trijicon reap ir and a utm. I had seriously almost every thermal.
I am in the military and I get to play with cooled thermal and the halo Lr for a uncool thermal is very impressive. The bottom picture is the Flir HISS XLR

That makes perfect sense. I spent three years in Iraq during and after the war. I had a chance to use some cooled thermals and the image was mind blowing. For commercial use I think the n vision line is probably the best image available today. As time goes by we’ll have some incredible options.

When you think about it, the 12 micron bae core was initially made in 2014 I believe. It’s interesting that no new cores have been created in 7 years. I would think they could make a 7 micron 1360x768 image now. Curious why the delay?? If it’s cost, the military would certainly enjoy that image quality.

Have you seen the full color night imaging camera. The X27 Osprey Reconnaissance Day/Night high Fidelity true real time low light/low lux color night vision. Looks like full color daytime at midnight. Incredible technology. For hunting, thermal still is king but the full color camera can superimpose thermal over it to get the best of both worlds. Now that’s amazing. Probably costs 100k.

The problem in the military is that just because new technology comes out let’s say 7 micron unit. The military doesn’t jump in it so bae and flir knows that. when they sell us a pice of gear there’s a life cycle on the item so they won’t invest in the new development till the military starts inquiring close to the life cycle replacement and that’s when they have the funds to develop the technology because the military is paying for the developmental cost and then we benefit from it. But for now this is a good example of how N-vision was Abel to use a old core with new software and make the image improvements.

only complaint I have is the junk ass objective cap. I broke mine as well and I am not spending $25 on another piece of shit. has anyone checked to see if the objective cap from a mk3 60mm will fit? those look just like a butler creek.

stretched over the objective ok? got any pics?
I put one in the post below at the beginning of December when I realized it would work

Made an adapter with 3D printer... using an old butler creek cap off a Schmidt and bender.
