I saw somewhere this person was currently in psychiatric care, possibly from the parents. Did the shooter lie on the 4473 to buy the guns or did their FBI handler just give them the guns? You're also ignoring dosage. I've seen GPs and even specialists (non psych) willing to prescribe an anti depressant but only in low doses without all the follow up from a shrink.
My wife is one of them, she takes one medication and, unfortunately, it has a depressive effect, it's not really something she's got a choice on. So she's on a super low dose of an anti depressant to even that out, worked wonders when we couldn't figure out what was going on initially.
It's also not 100mg of Zoloft a day. You're not going to be homicidal after 3 months of an anti depressant at a start up dose, even if you quit cold turkey... which you won't if you have known anyone with anxiety or depression.
