I'm wanting to buy an entry level 300 WM chambered rifle for my stepson to shoot, and possibly build on it as time goes on.

I've looked over several brands in this caliber, and it has left my head spinning with all of the available brands and variants.

I do not want to buy a top dollar rifle at this time, but wish to purchase an entry level rifle, with good reviews, to build on later.

Can some of you please point me in the right direction? As I stated earlier, I'm literally dizzy from all of the options available in this caliber. I only wish to purchase a base model, with minimal extras, in order to get him shooting.

I looked at some Savage 300 Win Mag rifles, but didn't know how they were on quality, and availability of aftermarket / upgrade parts. Most of the stock makers I've dealt with in the past strictly work with Winchester or Remington stocks.

Thanks in advance.

Great rifle, affordable. gets my choice here.

I just got a Sendero II in 300 Win Mag will have it in hands in about two weeks.

second choice would be a 700P 300 Win Mag.

Re: Need Advice ... 300 WinMag Purchase ....Which One?

I see that the Sendero gets a lot of votes. However, I'm looking for something a little cheaper.

Why couldn't I just go with a Remington 700 SPS base model in .300 WM, and build on it down the line? After all ... I would only need the Rem700 Action from the original rifle to complete a new rifle in time. The Remington 700 action would only need to be trued in order to make it benchrest ready.

Am I wrong in assuming this?

The reason I ask is that I can get an SPS for around $500 new, and the Sendero is around $625. I will be replacing the original stock and barrel anyway, so why not go with the base model?

Your thoughts?

i've always liked HS stocks and the 700P comes with an HS stock.

you can get a 700P in 300 WM for less than $1000 and you're not going to have to spend $300 replacing the stock later.

the 700P also comes with a 40-X trigger (which a good gunsmith can turn into a work of art) so you won't have to spend money on an aftermarket trigger.

if you hate HS stocks... forget everything i just typed

I have a Remington Sendero in .300WM! I recently changed out the stock (McRees) and put a Jewel trigger on there. I threaded the muzzle for a suppressor (whenever it gets approved) and am running a Sako TRG brake on it (which makes it so much more pleasent to shoot). They love the heavier rounds! My rifle loves Berger 210 VLD's and Dust_Remover has seen it.

Its a great rifle to build on.
