What can I say, I’m a busy guy. I usually don’t get 500 rounds a year. Probably more like 250.

I enjoy load development. I like to plink around at the range, shoot small groups on paper with my hand loads. I really like the Berger projectiles for target work and hunting. I hunt from a shooting house or elevated fixed stand but really prefer bow hunting.

I’ve picked up a rifle recently that I’ve always wanted. It’s a TRG 22 in .308. It’s an older rifle, pre 2013 with the older safety, etc. LOVE this rifle. I had initially installed a Sightron SIII 8-32 on it but that was too much scope (really big) and we mostly shot at 8x anyway.

I’m not sure exactly which way I should go. I probably could spend $1300 on glass but being perfectly honest, i don’t want to.

This rifle could handle and perform with practically any scope on the market.

I’m seriously considering two scopes. Once is the very inexpensive PFI Evolution 3-12x42 with the 7.62/5.56 reticle. $300.

The other is a used USO ST10. They are bringing $900-$1000 or so.

My thinking with both these scopes is that they should work well if used within the design limitations. The PFI with the reticle hold or the USO for dialing.

I don’t really have any ideas between those two price points. If I go any higher in price I’d spring for that new Athlon Cronus BTR but that’s really overkill for my needs. I had an IOR 10x42 that I’m really regretting selling.

So I need a scope on the queen but I want one that won’t break the bank but will handle what I need it to do when it does see daylight.

Its better to have it and not need it, then to not have it and need it!

Magnification that is.

I"d say here's the order that I'd spend $ in a value oriented fashion.

1. Athlon Cronus BTR $1799 ( Athlon optics guy here can get you a package deal)
2.Vortex PST gen 2 5-25 or 3-15 $1,000-900
3. Athlon Ares 4.5-27 or 2.5-15 $850-700
4 Sig Sauer Tango 4 6-24 or 4-16 $900-700

Your talking about a TRG here. Why would you be cheap. Athlon Cronus is almost a gen 2 razor and I can say that because I have owned one and still own G2 Razor.

Your cheating yourself and your rifle if you don't give it the glass it deserves. Most Europeans would spend the same amount or more on the glass, than they did on the rifle. Buy a direct mount Spuhr mount, while your at it and you will be happy in the long run.
