Just purchased an IOR 3.5-18X50 scope from a forum member, and I need some advise on what base to order. There are so many different flavors and brands. One piece? Two piece? Cant, no cant? Steel or aluminum? There seems to be a big price window, anywhere from $45 up to $150+. What is the difference from brand to brand? Are some better then others? and why? Should the brand of the base match the brand of the rings? Please Help, Tell me your opinions. thanks

The rifle it is going on is a savage 10fcp-k in .308, and I have an XLR Chassis on order for it. I plan on shooting out to 1000 yards with it, . The scope has IOR "medium" height rings with it, but I am sure I will probably have to get some taller ones to fit the XLR chassis.

EGW HD is as low in price as I would go before quality drops off. Ask XLR what brand they recommend that will run flush with their front tube. Picatinny rails interface with whatever is designed to be used with them. Aluminum works, steel is comfortable overkill if you aren't trying to save weight. Get 20 MOA even if you don't know if you'll need it, the rifle you describe will only be limited by caliber if you do so.

Opt for 1 piece. You won't be top loading with the XLR and the extra space will come in handy.
