Not sure where to put this, if it has to be moved, move it please.

I am looking for a challenge coin from my buddie who was KIAed.

I am getting a rifle and thought of getting a coin from his unit imbedded in the stock. But I keep running into a wall.

I found one from 1st Recon which was his prior unit, but I am also looking for his current unit. It was the 1st MSOB. If anyone knows where or how to get one shoot me a PM.

I found the MARSOC coin, which will do, but I'd prefer his actual unit coin

Thanks

Re: Need help finding a challenge coin

Sorry to hear about your buddy. Another great American lost...

To get a challenge coin, I would try writing:

1st Marine Special Operations Battalion
Box 555341
Camp Pendleton, CA 92055-5341

Explain what you are looking for. Let them know the name of your friend and tell them about your project. If it were me, I would address it to the Batallion Sgt. Major (Garritt Duncan). Send a SASE for the return of a coin. I am willing to bet that they will send you one...

Again, sorry to hear about your buddy and it sounds like a great project in his memory. If I had a coin, it would be yours!

Contacting the command directly is going to be your best option also ensure you provide the information on your buddy so that they can verify everything. Best of luck to you and I look forward to seeing the rifle you build I think it will be a nice way to remember your friend.

I will give that a try, thanks for the address

The Sgt Major was at the funeral and gave my dad his challenge coin, but it was the MARSOC coin.

I was not familiar with the whole ranks at that time, until now after the fact. If I would have known he was the guy at the time I would have hit him up. But don't you know... At the reception afterward I talked to a fair number of the guys in the unit and none of them had a coin.

A shameless plug, Mike (Tac-Cord) is doing this and helping with this. All I can say is he is going the extra mile and can't wait til it's done. I'm no good at pictures and posting them, so when he's done I'll see if he can take some pics and post them up.

If you prefer to answer in PM I understand. I had a cousin that was in Alpha Co before being killed in Afganistan. His sister and father still keep in touch with guys in his unit. I can try to get some NFC to one if you wish.

Never found the actual 1st MSOB coin, but a few weeks ago I got the rifle back from Mike.
