i have down loaded the ballistic ae program.after 3 days at the range i am confused ,what am i doing wrong.nothing is matching up with real data from range.here is the dope from range out to 600 m.along with load and rifle.in the drop (.1mrad) column are these numbers the amount of clicks i am suppose to come up on the turret,if so they are way off.
rifle-colt/cooper 308
lapua brass,168 gr berger target hybrid,44.7 gr.varget

RANGE DATA
100 m zero-
200m-.5mil
300m-1.7mil
400m-2.2
500m-3.5
600m-4.6
these values put me on target at under 1 moa

I don't know but looking at it right away you have a lot of mixing MOA and Mil. That would throw me off for sure I know. You have RANGE DATA listed in meters but the attachment shows your range in yards. Might want to square away as much as you can as MIL if that is indeed what you are shooting.

Well, there are a multitude of reasons why your results are not exact in relation to your computers predictions but my immediate guess would be muzzle velocity. What did you use to confirm your rifles MV? But actually they are pretty close considering your 1 MOA of variation. Yes, the come ups are in tenths of mils, so with mil turrets (one tenth adjustments) that's the amount of "clicks" you would dial.

i used a magneto speed chronograph ,but had problems with the strap, after looking at the scene again i noticed that i input the wrong speed,it should read 2675 fps.now i realize why everything was out.with the correct speed the measurements read as follows.

200-5.35
300-13.76
400-23.66
500-34.97
600-47.92

I set mine to MIL. That will display a mil value that you then dial to match. .1mrad, as you have it set now, looks confusing to me. I'm guessing your reticle is also mil which will make it much easier to use holds with the MIL value displayed in the software.

well this has been a real learning curve.yes i guessed that the scope height was appprox. 2.5 inches it is 2.7 inches.i have taken a long time with my reloading process trying to be exact,i put in lots of range time.this has opened up my eyes on how being out on a few things like .2 inches on height and out by 100 fps on chronograph can and does effect everything..lesson well learned....thank you
The reason I asked if it was a chassis gun is because you typically have a higher sight height on chassis guns to clear the rails. Like I said, double check that measurement.

When selecting Projectile Characteristics in the Trajectory Tab use the Litz profiles under Ballistic Coefficient. These will provide you with the most accurate BC for your bullet. This combined with accurate MV will get you very close. As mentioned above sight height above bore should be checked as well. Input the twist rate in the Spin Drift section. As far as setting the proper atmospherics there is a good thread on what you should set your Barometric Pressure and and Altitude so the unit uses Station Pressure. Hopefully this will get you close then you can true your MV with actual dope.
