I contacted Lauer Weaponry on Thursday of last week for an MSDS on Duracoat. They told me that they would send it, but I didn't get a response, so I called again on Friday and today. I keep getting the same run-a-round "We'll email you a copy right away!", but nothing ever comes of it.

My respirator cartridges are nearing their end life and I do not have the numbers from the original package. 3M insists I get an MSDS to make sure that their are no Isocyanates in the mix, as is customary for urethane based paints.

What can I do? I have contacted them multiple times without any luck. I talk to the same person each time who states that they will send it a.s.a.p.

that was hard........

<span style="font-weight: bold">Those are the INCORRECT products!</span>

Come to find out ...... there are 5 different products by the name of 'Duracoat'. The items you listed were for an Anti-Static Floor coating, and the other was for a Concrete floor finish.

So, to make a long story short, that didn't help me at all.

Anyone else?

They're the wrong chemical MSDS listed in your post!

Per Randy from Lauer Weaponry, the hardener DOES contain Isocyanates, but I can't get an MSDS to see what else there might be.

You can't use a standard filter if you have isocyanates in a compound. Well, you can, but your lungs won't last long if you use it often.

Despite popular belief, Duracoat <span style="font-weight: bold">IS NOT</span> Polane-T.

Duracoat may be similar in chemical composition, but they are two different products.

For one, Duracoat contains nylon for elasticity. Polane -T does not. Also, Duracoat contains Titanium Dioxide and Cyclohexanone which aid in durability. Polane -T does not. Milk and butter both come from a cow, but they aren't the same thing. See my point? Duracoat may be a 'doctored up' version of Polane - T , but they aren't the same thing. The same as butter is different from milk even though they are both, in essence, milk.

However, Lauer finally came through for me, and to my suspicion, the hardener DOES contain Isocyanates! So, if I am to use it any longer I will have to get a clean air system. No use in becoming sensitized by Isocyanates, and having all sorts of health issues from it. Nervous system damage is a common side effect of Isocyanate toxidity, and it is completely undetectable without the right equipment.

I just wish Lauer Weaponry would come up with a 'Low VOC' version of their hardener. That would be a lot healthier and cheaper in the long run. I love the stuff, but will not use it without the proper ventilation / respirator again. I knew something was wrong when my standard 'Organic Vapor' filter kept allowing me to smell the sweet fumes from Duracoat. That was a sign that the isocyanates had made their way through and saturated my respirator cartridges.
