Hey guys. Tomorrow I'm leaving for Tucson to play a little college baseball over spring break. I just wanted to ask you locals where the good places to eat are and what are some decent attractions to check out. Appreciate any suggestions!

I'm not a local but do have a few suggestions.
Places to eat:
Zinburgers, there are 2 locations, best burgers evah!

Gus Balon's for breakfast, great home cooking.

La Parilla Suiza, Mexican.

Maya Quetzal, Guatamalan, great grub in a tiny little joint.

Molina's Mexican, self explanatory...

The Settlement on Old Spanish Trail, try the smoked meat burrito, freakin crazy good, beer and sports TV in the bar.

Stuff to do:
Hit the Desert Museum which is more like a zoo with all the local animals, bugs, reptiles etc. The drive over Grant's pass to get there is worth it alone.

Rent a motorcycle from Tucson Dave (He's here on the Hide) and head south to Tombstone, Patagonia, Bisbee, Tubac etc. Great little towns to poke around.

If you like caves, look at Colossal Cave and Kartchner Caverns, its a good time.

The drive up Mt Lemmon is amazing as well as a ride up Sabino Canyon.

We like to try to hit a Phoenix Coyotes NHL game too, just a short drive from Tucson.

Don't know much about the night life as I gave that up a while ago.... :D

Hope this helps a bit, good luck!

There was a thread here on the hide started by someone for the exact same reason last year. Playing baseball in Tucson and wondering what to do in the downtime. You should look for it.
There is a lot of cool shit to see and do in Tucson. I am going to skip things that I do not think are relatively unique to Tucson/the southwest. An example would be Mt. Lemon. It is a lot of fun, but it is your standard high altitude pine forest and can be found elsewhere.

Pima air and Space museum is bad ass. You definitely need to go. If you go the same day as the Titan Missile Museum there is a small discount. I was skeptical about the Titan Missile Museum, but I actually thought it was a lot of fun.

Like mentioned the Sonoran Desert Museum is cool if you like seeing animals. A zoo but with local wildlife. If you do go, make sure to budget a little bit of time to stop at Gate's Pass and take your pictures next to saguaro cacti. Gates Pass is free and literally just a pull off on your way out there. Do not go to the international wildlife museum, it is a waste.

Also out by the Sonoran Desert Museum is Saguaro National Park West. Admission is not to bad, I think it is about $10. Once again there are a lot of Saguaros and also a couple of petroglyphs, but not a lot.

Chiricahua National Monument- Really cool rock formations, downside is it is probably 2 hours or so away. Google it.

On your last day, if you don't have to play ball the next day you might want to check out Picacho Peak. It was where the farthest west civil war battle was fought, albeit amongst about 10 men. The hike really isn't that bad, it just looks intimidating because it is steep the whole way. Pretty short in reality. Everything around the peak is pretty flat so you get a good view.

There are more hiking trails then you can imagine, but you might not be wanting to physically exert yourself too bad.

For food there are a lot of good places, if you can get together the scratch one that I highly recommend is Cafe Poca Cosa. It is a little pricier ($20-$25 per plate before tips, ect), and you will need a reservation, but it is not your standard tex mex, and it is really fucking good.

The Barrio Brewery, Frog & Firkin, Trident.

Hike Bear Canyon! There's a waterfall up there that's awesome. There's some decent off-roading in Reddington Pass. Mt Lemmon is a nice getaway for beating the heat. And being that you're a college dude, there's plenty of UofA chicks down on 4th ave. Also, The Maverick is a well full of women as well (chicks are cooler there and its dollar beers on Friday nights). Its a country bar.

Really you like Frog n Firkin? I can't stand that place, but to each there own. No Anchovies has better service, good beer, good pizza and is next door.

visit this place. They have an aviary you can go into and walk around.

The Saguaro National Monument is a must see as well.

Guillermo's Double D Mexican Restaurant. Best food I have had.

El Guerro Canelo. Best sonoran hot dogs around. Two locations.

Temps should be mid-80s for the next couple weeks. Perfect weather.

Mt. Lemmon/Confidence Peak should have bears starting to wake up and are plenty visible. Beautiful drive too.

Kartchner Caverns might require reservations for the cave tour, it has the last couple time we have gone. Amazing place and story of the discovery.

Cochise Stronghold/Wonderland of Rocks near Benson is breathtaking and hiking is amazing.

Good varmint hunting right now too.

It actually may be a case where it has gotten better over time and is all right now. I haven't been there in about 4 years or so. I work on campus so that entire strip is within walking distance for lunch. I went there three times in a row and got bad enough service that I swore off the place. It was over the summer too so it isn't like they were busy.
I used to like it a lot, but I haven't been there in almost a year because of deployments and such. Maybe things went south? I dunno.
