I went the 12LRP route back in Nov and although I don't regret the decision, understand that you may get a hammer or a lemon. The good part about getting the lemon is that you can send the entire rifle back to Savage for warranty work (provided you haven't done anything to void that warranty like remove the barrel or have it threaded for a suppressor/break). if you can't or don't want to go the warranty route you can typically obtain a nice target barrel for $350-o$400 from Jim at Northland Shooting Supply. The bad part of getting a lemon is that your eventual planned rebarrel may be far sooner than the expected 2.5k rounds (~300 in my case).
If you do got the Savage LRP route three things that I have found that are beneficial for tactical rifle competitions:
1. Swap out the Accu-trigger for a rifle Basix
2. Order two 10round magazines from Dan at Dark Eagle Customs
3. Consider the Accu-shot mono-pod BT01-QK
On a side note it appears that the LRP is is undergoing a stock change from the
H-S Precision Pro-Series 2000 Savage 10FP 12 Target Varmint Tactical Single Shot & Repeater Stocks PSV 102 106 118 to the
H-S Precision Pro-Series M24 Vertical Grip Varmint Tactical Savage 10FP 110 DM 12 BBC Stocks - PST 101 114 129.
