LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors charged a 36-year-old man Wednesday with a brazen ambush of two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies earlier this month, an apparently unprovoked shooting as they sat in a squad car outside a rail station.

The sheriff’s department arrested Murray two weeks ago in connection with a separate carjacking. But officials at the time said it was not related to the ambush case.

Murray has a criminal history including convictions for sales and possession of narcotics, firearm possession, receiving stolen property, burglary and terrorist threats, authorities said. Wednesday’s criminal complaint includes allegations that he associates with gangs.

No he was not arrested for the carjacking... at least not before the deputies were shot.

The suspect in the shooting of the deputies fled in a black Mercedes SUV. They investigated further and discovered a black Mercedes SUV was carjacked on Sept. 1. The victim in that incident was also shot. He had been on the run since the carjacking and was then involved in the shooting of the deputies.

Officers located him driving in another vehicle and the pursuit occurred. He fled from the vehicle to an apartment and the black Mercedes SUV was found nearby. He was arrested and initially charged for the carjacking. Then after getting the ballistics on the discarded gun they charged him for the deputies attempted murder.
