If you give a bit on the high end magnification, there is a choice I would not hesitate to use on anything, the SuperSniper 3-9x42 FFP, by SWFA. Excellent glass, good mechanicals, light for an FFP scope, Mil/Mil, 30mm tube, but stops at 9x. The cost is relatively low, at $540 with the hide coupon. It feels like a $1,000+ scope.
That would be a cheap and easy choice, and you can sell it again when the Viper PST line comes out - you won't take more that a $50 loss on it if it still is in good shape. If you look on the classifieds here, they sell fast. </div></div>
WestofPecos speaks with wisdom. On a hunting/SPR rifle I don't want parallax adjustments to slow me down. The Super Sniper also has a seldom mentioned feature in that at low light at low power (3X) the thicker outer edges of the reticule "grow" towards the center and if you have enough light to identify your target you have a sight picture you can use. I've got two and am very pleased.
