Well, I finally got all my ducks in a row and ready to start building my 338 Lapua Mag. The final piece came in yesterday, Manners T4A stock. Now I can start machining the barrel. I am using:
Manners T4A stock
Krieger 30" #17 barrel with 1.3 breach and 1-9.3 twist
Jewell tigger
Stiller TAC 338 action LH single shot
NightForce 5.5-22x50 w/NP-R1 and HS turrets
Fat Bastard brake
Badger rings

Started ordering this stuff back in Feb but was in no hurry as I was still working on my Savage .284 build. So I had plenty of time to gather all the parts, brass, bullets and reloading dies, etc. This will be my first Krieger build as I usually go with Bartlein but a buddy of mine has had great luck with Krieger so I thought I'd give'm a try.

Re: New 338 LM build

Looks very good, somewhat similar to my .338 LM build. I'm using a Surgeon XL repeater action, 30" Pac-Nor 1-9" twist barrel, WCI brake, Jewell trigger, Manners T4 stock, and a US Optics SN-3 3.8-22X44 1/10th mil EREK GAP mil scale reticle.

I also stared my build back in Feb but the barrel took twice as long as what Pac-Nor said it would. I'm bedding it this weekend and then I'll do the barrel break in.

Re: New 338 LM build

Finally got started on the barrel.

Drilling out before chambering

checking the runout after reaming out the chamber. had a little under .0002"
checking the headspace with a piece of brass. I could just feel it start to compress the brass.

Re: New 338 LM build

I initially checked it with a Go gauge and then run a new brass casing in to check for clearance. I always verify with the brass that I'm going to use. The two aren't always the same.

Even worse than that, it's a left handed action.

is that what it is.... damn lefty

Re: New 338 LM build

I've got about the identical components sitting in my safe waiting for me to get started. Right handed Stiller Tac338, 31" Rock bbl 1-9.4 twist, jewell trigger, etc... Don't have a stock, but I do have a big blank of laminate I was considering carving into an A5 type stock with adj. cheeckpiece. Looks good!

Whole damn thing is busted, I could probably live witht the bolt knob on the wrong side, but the ejection port too?

Looks like a nice build.

Re: New 338 LM build

Looks to me like the muzzle brake probably will shoot loose....any chance you have an issue with the muzzle barke staying on? Just wanted to help.......thought that some friendly advise from one shooter to another might cheer you up a little. I hope that the rifle shoots better than what it cost, and anytime that you need a 338 LM load I have lots of books.......
