New Applied Ballistics® Quantum™ APP! - & It's Free!

It shouldn't have required uninstalling the app, only restarting the phone except you had some bugs that were fixed updates ago. For this, please use the in app support function to send the ticket in. This lets us check the bug logs to see why it may or may not have updated.
Understood.

Just posted the request through the app, along with all attached diagnostics info.

@DocUSMCRetired, I have my KiloG2 paired with Quantum (BDX Elite mode) and it seems that both are calculating a firing solution independently, rather than the firing solution being calculated in Quantum and returned to the Kilo, is that the way it is supposed to operate?

What is the advantage of getting a firing solution from the app when the LRF also uses AB?
@DocUSMCRetired

Which feature is on the list:

Making the "target" smaller on the reticle?
or
Making Accuracy 1st features available on ABQ?
Adjustments to the reticle output display. Adopting A1st into ABQ is still up for debate. These features will not be in the next release but are under discussion.

Thank you, I'd really appreciate it if the A1st would be incorporated.

I can manually figure out the WindDots and SpeedDrop in ABQ already but having it spit out the info would be a lot handier than manually doing it in ABQ or doing it from the Kestrel, especially having it update when enviromentals rapidly change or I drive 6hrs for a match.

The SpeedDrop is nearly there with the 'Reticle' menu and the 'dialed elevation' feature. If the SD were calculated as 1.9, it would be neat to be able to 'dial down -1.9' in the Reticle menu and have that actually change on the range card not just the Reticle illustration. So, I could verify 2.0=200y, 3.5=350y, 5.1=510y etc. I can do that by going into my profile and changing the zero-offset height to the SD number but that's a few too many steps. This is coming from a gas gunner that appreciates those features for quick shooting solutions.

These are things that still ongoing internal discussions.

When using the temp table do you have to have it in a specific order?
If you do, is there a way to drag them about in the table, its a pain having to write everything down to re-input to get temps in a descending or ascending order when adding a temp and speed.

Doc, here is an enhancement idea for you. No idea how difficult it would be. Let us rename the devices. For example, I have 2 Fire4000 WMLRFs, would like to be able to name them something other than the serial so it makes it easier to distinguish.

I can add it to the list for internal discussion for sure.

Absolutely. And we aren't a russian company.
Well. I will need a Strelok replacement before long, so I downloaded AB Quantum from the Apple app store - v3.4.3 build 172. Before I gripe about the free version, I'll say that I'm intrigued enough to play with this app a little in the coming weeks, but it's going to have to show me a LOT more before it replaces Strelok or even 4DOF.
  • Within minutes, I hit a hard wall as I compared its 6BR solutions to Strelok: Max range allowed for the "free" version is 875 yards. Want more? Pay up. Unlike Strelok, you don't buy this app. You rent it. By the month or by the year. Forever. I wonder if rent will increase...?
  • Want to load a scope from the library? Awesome. As long as you don't use Athlon or Vortex optics, because those aren't included. I wonder if the paid library is more complete? I mean, no Vortex? Really?
  • Want to enable spin drift, aerodynamic jump, or Coriolis? Pay up.
  • Further up in this thread, mention was made of a free trial under "Upgrade Subscription." Nope. Not in this version, that I've been able to find.
  • Limit of five rifle profiles.
As I said, I'm intrigued enough to tinker with AB Quantum a little bit more, but the "free" version has some significant basic weaknesses (especially the limited range). I do not like the idea of "renting" an application, even if software subscription is becoming a norm. From the user manual (note that the table below says a free Pro trial is available, but I haven't found it):

You can upgrade to elite for a one time cost. The only monthly/yearly fee is if you go to professional. If you don’t want WEZ don’t go to Pro.

The Elite license is included with multiple devices such as a Garmin Tactix or Fortrax, or a Kestrel 5700X, if you buy one of those devices and sync it to AB Q you don’t have to pay anything in addition to that.

Personally, the expense of AB is worth it. Litz and crew spend an unreal amount of time to build all of these models. It’s very expensive, it’s also very worth it.

I resisted going to AB for years because of the expense. I tried all of the other apps. The apps themselves are decent, what ended up selling me on AB is the ecosystem. I don’t HAVE to have my phone, the ability to get the firing solutions on my watch, my kestrel, my WMLRF or my binoculars. That is true selling point and value to the AB system to me.

Thanks for this. I need to dig deeper. It isn't clear yet how to acquire Elite for a one-time fee.

Being in the USA we have to, and morally want to, follow copyright laws. Reticles are the legal property of the person or company who designs them. The reason Vortex and Athlon are not in the library, is because we don't have permission to add them. We have asked, but we have not received the necessary permissions to legally incorporate them. We are not about to move to a offshore HQ just so we can ignore copyright laws. I suggest emailing them and letting those companies know you would like to see them added. Both of them have received requests from us to implement them.

Their is a free trial for Pro for 3 days. Some users will see a popup with more information regarding this. Update your app here soon and see if that activates the pop up.

Their is a limit of five profiles and Spin Drift/Coriolis isn't of big concern at short distances so they are not activated in Ultralite. I do find it interesting how sometimes people complain about a free product. I mean... it's free....

It is a subscription based model, but we are also constantly implementing new features. WEZ. Sectors. Target Card transfers to other devices (Vector X, Garmin Tactix 8, Kestrel 5700s). Remote control of some devices. Target Cards where you can have individual data for every line. RADAR Flight Data from our laboratory for every single bullet in the library. Not to mention the Mobile Laboratory where you can get your own PDM right into the apps/devices. And we are already working on the next iteration of new features.

So we do have a subscription model, but we are using to constantly add new features, and to develop based on feedback. Not to mention ATAK and CivTAK plugins.

Thanks for a thoughtful reply to my pissy-sounding post. Not my finest moment, and I apologize for the way I came across. What bugged me was hitting the range limit within minutes of beginning to experiment with the app. Yes, Ultra-Light is free, and I expected a reduced feature set (like no spin drift / jump / Coriolis / bullet/scope libraries) - but the range limit surprised me.

Thanks especially for the explanation of why Vortex and Athlon are missing from the scope library. I made a living as a writer many decades ago, and I've seen my work appear without attribution/credit. At face value, it would seem to me to be to an optics company's advantage to have their products in the AB library.

While I understand the business perspective of subscription-based software, it bugs me to have to keep paying for new features I may not want or use - or to keep paying for the features I do use, like BMW's ill-fated attempt to charge a monthly fee to keep the seat warmers working. I expect to dig into AB a bit more over the coming weeks; it will take a very compelling feature set and performance to overcome my resistance to the subscription model. Your presence/contribution here on SH and calm response to @$$#0!+ posts is a signifiant positive.

Thanks again.

This is the wrong sport for you if $19.99/yr is too expensive to support the good people at AB to receive a quality product that works extremely well with great features.

Even if you break it down to using it one time per month, that is ~1 round of match ammunition, and I bet it’ll save you more in ammo than it’s worth.

$20 per year is a bargain for quality American-based software.

Wow, coming from a guy whose all-of-121-posts presence here on SH is 90+ percent PX stuff... not one post that I can see having anything to do with actual shooting experience... yeah, dude, your opinion has been given all the consideration it's worth.

Another great thing about American enterprise is competition. Applied Ballistics does indeed have a great product. So do other companies.

Take a real close look at the title of this thread. It ends with, "& It's FREE!" If "Free" is a baseline for comparison, the clunky 4DOF comes off looking pretty good.

I'm out. @DocUSMCRetired , thanks for your words. If AB turns out to do what I need better than other alternatives, I'll be happy to pay for it.

Oh never-mind his BS. Blessed are the peacemakers. I never understand how folks think rubbing salt, is helping their favorite business.

I am a BIG fan of AB and their products. I was pretty vocally discouraged with the old version of this app. This upgrade has just been awesome.

I hope you’ll stick around. Not all of us AB fans are hothouse orchids. Perhaps you’ll find it worth using over other options.

This is why we have different levels. It is also why we offer a monthly version. Some users are only paying for the 1 month they want for a hunt etc. At the level they want. So for them its only $2 a year. To each their own.

I actually considered doing that with the Professional version for the NF ELR match so I could grab the entire COF to my kestrel but decided that was kinda greasy and I was gonna laser the targets anyways.

If there was a one time purchase option I would have, honestly that's probably the only feature from Pro I would use.

The one time purchase option would be to buy a Kestrel 5700 X-WEZ or the Leica Geovid AB+ Binos.
