just picked up a new ar-15...not sure what sight to put on it...thinking eotech...gun is just a range toy and wont be shot past 100yrds. besides range its not looking like im even going to bring it into the woods for hunting. Any help on scopes would be great.

What type of shooting are you going to be doing with it?

Not past 100 yards, but are you going to be run 'n gunning or shooting off a bench; itty-bitty groups or steel; magnified optic or red dot sight.

Why not just use irons at 100 yards?

I am thinking an EOTech for myself, but for my own reasons.

hey Oodin, Mostly from a bench. I live in Long Island, NY. Not to many ranges out here where i can do all that. it will moslty be from a bench. Gun came with flip up iron sights. Just wanted some thing a little nicer. I will be shooting groups on paper.

I would think a fixed power magnified optic would treat you pretty good. They're simple, rugged, reliable, and relatively inexpensive. Even a USO 10x is less that $1K (with no optional goodies).

That's not exactly a recommendation, but it's a place to start; that is if you like to start at the top and keep eliminating options until you're left with the cheapest item that still meets your requirements.

On 14.5 barreled carbine I use a 4 X Trij w/bdc and piggyback red dot for intermediate range and groups, and Eotech for Run N'Gun. Although the mini dot works on the Trij, I don't like changing my weld and loss of sight picture when transitioning between the magnified optic and the dot. Eotech Gets +1 also if you have, or intend to use NV at any point. As others have suggested, it's best to determine what your doing with the rifle, and then match optics. Just my two pennies.

Best of luck!
