Decided to try out knife and sheath making. Pretty fun. Made everything myself, Blade, Micarta handles, Sheath.
1st: 7" x 2" skinner, O1 steel, Burlap Micarta scales. Gave this to my Father in law for Christmas

Cut out the profile then filed the Bevel in a file jig that I made.

Made some Micarta

2nd knife, Drop Point. 9" OAL x 1.5" Wide Blade, .156" thick O1 Steel. Orange and Black Paper Micarta. Did a forced patina on the blade by submerging it in Apple Cider Vinegar for a half hour. I like the way it came out. It faded the handle a little bit, I need to polish it up with Johnson's Paste Wax
Giving this one to my Dad

If you were on east coast I was gonna say you could take a knife making class at my college. May have them at one out there. Some custom knife makers come in and teach NRA classes a few times a year. Most people that take the class have never made a knife but figured might be able to learn something. Knives look good. The skinner would be super handy this time of year

Very nice work! The leather work in itself is an art! I had an uncle that was a master leatherworker. I like the rustic finishes on both the steel and leather. I was at a local survival shop and they had some knives from a local artisan. I was blown away at his work. One of the knives looked like it had been made from a piece of metal from an old farm implement or something. Deep pitting and patina in parts of the blade, very cool!!
