Went to the range again today with the new RECCE from High Caliber Sales.

The upper is mounted on a new SR15 lower from KAC. Very pleased with initial performance and overall fit/finish. Really liking the KAC 2 stage trigger.

Anyway, yesterday was the first time out with it, and basically only function tested and rough zeroed the optic. Only used 55 grain Corbon, obviously not tailored for the 1/7 twist Douglas barrel. It shot pretty well with the 55, at least better than I thought it would.

At any rate, today I got back and used 77 grain Black Hills OTM (Mk262) and some of my hand loads using 77 SMK's over Varget.

I started at 100 and wasnt blown away with the groups, but they were okay. Hovered around 1" for the most part with the BH mk262 load. Not a huge deal, as I am going to be handloading for it ultimately anyway. I didnt have a ton of 77 grain ammo with me, so I pretty quickly moved on to 300 yards.

First group looked good, as best as I could tell with my 10x optic (didnt bring a spotter), then I shot 3 more groups. Then proceeded to the 45% IPSC steel target I had on the 300 yard berm and had pretty good luck. Took 1.3 mils to get from 100 to 300, about what I expected. Ran out of 77 grain stuff, so I wanted to wrap up so I could head to the pistol range and get a good 25 yard zero on a Spikes carbine.

When I went to pull my targets I was really surprised. The best group was around 1.75" and all of them were well under 3". The wind was blowing pretty good today, so by no means was it a clinical comparison, but I found it odd that the groups were around 1-1.25moa at 100 yards but were dramatically better at 300.

It is making me wonder about how the barrel is stabilizing the projectile. I need to put a lot more rounds down range, and with various loads, but it still makes me wonder. Anyone else had similar results with Douglas barrels, and/or the BH Mk262?

Here are the carbines I shot today. (I already posted these pictures, but all threads are better with pics)

The Spikes carbine shot really well for me. I cant shoot for shit off hand, but for me I was shooting well at 50 yards standing. Then, rested on a post I was able to keep tight groups. Impressed with the weapon as well as the T1. Was a good day at the range. Even with the wind.

Re: New RECCE from HCS. Range Report. Question.

Nope I bet its the scope, I have the same one and it has about a 1.25" extreme parallax movement at 100 yards. You really have to make sure your eye position is perfect at 100 to shoot tight groups. You will hit everything POI-POA past 200. Check it out the next range session. I put my VX3 3.5-10 with the parallax adjustment on my rifle to check and it tightened my 100 yard groups right up, but 100 yards is not what I bought the scope for and 1 MOA is still a cranial ocular shot anyway.

I know this doesn't apply to your rifle but I recently had a similar situation occur and it was the ammo for me. My rifle loves anything FGMM, McCourt Munitions, and Black Hills. It is a true consistent 1/4-1/2 MOA gun at least out to 500 so far. I shot some factory Hornady 178 bthp (Non-Superformance) through it and could never really shoot a GREAT group at 100. Would stay around 3/4-1 MOA between 100-300 but 300 out to just shy of 700 it was very impressive.

Re: New RECCE from HCS. Range Report. Question.

I've been contemplating the 77 gr MK over the 69 gr. A few have mentioned that the 77 will shoot better past 200. Seems that might be the case for you, I shoot a Douglas barrel too.
