Hello everyone, just purchased a new Remington SPS varmit .308 with a Leupold 4.5 x 14 x 40 scope. I am on a Multi-Jurisdictional SRT team and just this last week qaulified as a sniper. So, I am here to shut up and listen and learn. Currently I am in the market for adding a new stock on my rifle. I think I have this figured out and will soon have another added. Just wanted to introduce myself and look foreward to talkin with ya'll ......... Tom

Re: New Tactical Marksman reporting.....

Thanks for the Reply Razor, appreciate it brother. Just took the rifle out today and shot some good groups. Thought I had a problem with the stock. Seems the problem was me!

Re: New Tactical Marksman reporting.....

Welcome, congrats on the new qualification, and the new rifle. I have the same model, they do pretty good. The trigger on mine was awful, changed that and its been a pretty solid 1/2 MOA rifle ever since. Good shooting.

Re: New Tactical Marksman reporting.....

Welcome to the hide.

There are several very good options for stocks, all dependent of course on how much you want to spend.
A good stock may not make your groups smaller, but it will make them far more consistent.

Bell and Carlson makes several good stocks with full length aluminum bedding blocks.

Next higher on the list is the HS precision stocks, you can often find 5R or 700P take off stocks for about 200. New, you are looking just north of 300.

Then you have the aforementioned Manners and McMillans, be prepared to wait.

Then you have your chassis systems McCrees, AI, XLR and Tac-Mod.

Basically, you can spend anywhere from 200 to 1400 dollars on a stock.

welcome to the hide. congrats on the qualification. I just ordered a bell and carlson m40 style aluminum bedded stock from stockysstocks. have not built, but i'm sure it will provide for a much sturdier shoot. it was only 230 shipped. good deal from what i hear. hope you figure it out!

Re: New Tactical Marksman reporting.....

Your welcome. I'm running a mcree chassis and love it. If you don't want a chassis system I would go with a manners. Personally I fell in love with the t5a the first time I held it.

Re: New Tactical Marksman reporting.....

keep us posted on the SPS Varmint. Considering getting myself one in .243.

Stocks are just as much about comfort as they are for the 'technical' stuff (what they do for your rifle). Try and get your hands on as many as possible, just to find out what feels comfortable and easiest for you to shoot.

A trigger job may be in order for your Remmy, Jewell triggers have a pretty good rep on this site, though i've only had a mild play with them myself (aftermarket and custom stuff doesn't get much of a see-in with most shooters here in Oz)

Good luck and congrats on the Quals
