So be nice.

With no spare money to build a new rifle I re-purposed one of my current AR's. Its not the best platform for precision, but since I can't get beyond 250 yards it works ok.

A BCM 16" chromelined midlength upper on a Spikes Tactical lower. Stock mil-spec trigger.
Grabbed a scope and bipod from the box-o-parts and loaded up some 75gn Hornady's.
The light is for coyotes.

260 yards to the center target. Averages 1.25-1.5 MOA @ 100.

I'm currently trying to buy a house and do not have the spare money to buy a proper precision rifle. So this will have to work until then.

It looks like a good place to start I understand money is tight you might consider finding a good match barrel either white oak or rainier arms ultra-match they are both good and accurate it looks like you already have a good free floated hand guard so that will help. Most importantly just keep shooting.

Re: New to precision style shooting

Watch for a used 2-stage trigger. Will help with your current rig without spending big bucks. KAC 2-stage seem to come up for around $90 to $120.

I was in your position a little while ago. I reconfigured a S&W MP Sport as a precision rifle. All you really need is a new barrel and trigger when money is available.

By the way, what riser are you using? Did you have to modify it to work with the charging handle?

Don't let a CL CHF barrel fool you. My DD CL CHF 16" (1:7 twist) has put out an absolute best of .505" at 100 yards over 5 shots using Southwest Ammo 69gr SMK RNG. I also have a standard milspec trigger in mine.

I focused on driving it right...my follow through and trigger. I really need to get back into a dryfire routine...plenty of knowledge to be had in this forum for semiautos and shooting them. Search for it.

I used a .5" riser. Its actually for use on the CTR only on non-ar rifles. I do have to run the stock out further to allow me to fully charge the rifle. I may try to notch it to allow me to use the correct stock position.

I had to use it because of my optic mounting system with a extended rail putting the optic center-line higher.
