I've recently become interested in this 3 gun deal. I've started building an AR on a cmmg billet lower. Lower is done (for now) and I'm not really sure what to look for barrel wise. I'm just used to the m4 I toted in Afghanistan and it was a hunk of crap. I'm thinking Midwest industries newer billet upper but don't know a lot about em. I'm a little out if my realm on this one I'm generally a long range guy, So anything would be helpful at this point. Thanks guys.

Dustin;
It depends a little on what you want and where you will be shooting. In the Est, we have a hard time getting matches where they shoot over 200 yds, that being the case a 16" barrel is fine. I use a Rainer 16" Ultra match and think it is great. It handles well as it is fairly compact in close quarters, but can get reasonable hits at 500 yds. Most use an 18" barrel, and in the West where I understand ranges are generally longer that is probably worth while. There are so many good AR barrels it is hard to say one is the best choice, but you want an accurate rifle, most of your shots are so close and fast it doesn't matter, but when it does it really matters.

Also, this is a great site for Long range, but you will find the Brian Enos Forum more useful for 3-gun.

FN makes a great barrel that's made from a m60 barrel I think Noveski does the same. They key to accuracy with semi autos is lock up of all components. Obviously you want no slop and with milled you get a more precise (and repeatable) product. 20" barrels are hard to run and gun, 18 or 16 may be better, but less accurate
. But there are soooo many variables involved! Just my opinion
