So I've got a preban AR15. Colt R6700 and the trigger sucks. I'm finally getting around to replacing the trigger and my smith says he has to remove a not supposed to be removed for some reason pinned block behind the trigger. Maybe he does not know everything about it. I don't want him grinding out the block. Is there a 2 stage trigger of reasonable quality that will fit without the excavation of the action? Thanks

It is a sear block (which should be a term in your smith's vocab if you are going to have him mill it out). They were a largely bull@#$% politico-legal overreaction installed by Colt for a while during the pre-ban/transitional/Clinton-ban era so that either a drop-in auto sear or a standard auto sear/sear pin could not be "easily" installed in a lower. 
They are clearly visible in the top of the lower when the upper is removed. They are in fact pinned in place (they used a couple different pinning methods over the years so it is hard to tell which yours has in it...the 3-pin models are a real @#$% to do without a mill).
I would not hesitate in the least to remove the sear block which will allow you to use any number of different trigger groups, BUT...the Geissele SSA, SSA-E and S3G triggers WILL WORK WITHOUT REMOVAL OF THE SEAR BLOCK assuming your Colt is a large-pin lower (which it SHOULD BE)!

If you aren't sure which size pins, get the lower in your hands and measure them. If they are the larger, buy the SSA-E (one of my personal favorites in the Geissele lineup) and leave your lower well enough alone.
