Just wanted to get some opinions on scope selection for my first tactical build up. My rig is as follows, Rem 700 AAC-SD .308 20 in barrel, B&C Medalist Varnmit stock, Leupold mark 4 rail 15 Moa elevated and burris xtr Rings. I am looking at scopes in the 500 dollar range, like Nikons p308 and vortex viper midway special. I have been partial to nikon stuff only because I have experience using their products and I already have a pair of 1 inch rings. I want to shoot out to 800 yrds maybe 1000 at some point. I do use this rifle to hunt with if thats a factor. Will post pics soon, your help is much appreciated!

Re: Newb Scope selection help!

Fox, I see a Nikon Scope in your near future! You can get a MONARCH to fit your price range and do what you want it to do. I have a 2 bolt action .308's. 1 with a PROSTAFF 4-12 BDC and 1 with a MONARCH 3-12 BDC Reticle. I like the BDC reticle for all my hunting rifles. The BDC reticle allows me to utilize Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program to cutomizee the accuracy of my BDC Scope to whatever ammo I choose. Since putting BDC Scope's on these rifles, my 13 year old sona nd 77 year old Father In-Law have gone 11 for 11 on 1 shot stops on deer from Ks. to Tx. Pretty good considering my Father In-Law used to average about a box of shell's per deer!

Another option a friend is using and 1 I hope to try out soon is using Nikon's M-308 4-16 either BDC or Rapid Action Turret 800 yards. The Rapid Action Turret is calibrated for a specific ammo .308 168 gr bullet at 2680 fps. This would allow you to turn the turret tot he distance you ar shooting. My firneds that have used it raved about their accuracy.

Tikka T3 and T/C Icon both in .308 with Nikon BDC Scopes.
