looking thru the new NF catalog and saw the mount they offer that is a base and rings all in one. I can see the potential downside in this but I would assume that NF has done their homework and has spaced the rings so that they work with their scopes and create the proper eye relief for 99.9999% of humans. Having it all unitized would seem to be one less thing to go wrong and since their bases and rings are well respected, is their any reason why them combined would be any lesser of a product?

Re: NF Unimount

I get the feeling the mount may be designed for the AR crowd, like La Rue, Burris, etc - the front ring forward of its clamp allows the mount and scope to be placed further forward on the receiver.

However by placing the clamp back from the ring you have created a bit of a cantilever. Under recoil you may get more objective bell flex and some tiny flex at the front ring than with conventional rings or a one piece mount.

The point may be moot as objective bell flex will happen with normal rings or one piece mount but from the point of the front ring.

It may help to watch the S&B scope youtube video bouncing around on an AI AS50 to help understand the point, but I am sceptical about believing my own eyes with that video - I think a lot of the apparent scope flex the video shows can be from air movement created by the muzzle brake (like mirage causes a target to move on a hot day).

If you already have a flat picatinny rail and want to mount a NXS scope on it with a 20 MOA one piece mount, the options are few, the uni mount offers this and in two hights so mounting a 56mm objective shoud be possible on almost all barrel countours. Nightforce says no lapping required either - a big plus if you happen to have a scope issue with a Nightforce, it removes the question of not having proerly mounted or lapped scope rings.

The uni mount was something I thought about for mounting a NXS scope on my AW50. Requiring a very high one piece mount and 20 moa the options are very limited. I ended up with the DTA (deset tactical arms) one piece mount - excellent piece of kit.

Re: NF Unimount

03 you talking about the Unimount or the direct mount? I think the direct mount which includes the base and ring set up seen here

It's a good set up but like you mentioned it doesn't allow for as much movement of the scope as a separate base and rings would. I used to run a similar set up and it worked fine. The NF direct mount is a quality unit but I personally like a separate base and rings.

Re: NF Unimount

I have the Nightforce unimount and also a JP one piece. They are both great because it makes it easy to switch your scope to another rifle. The only thing I don't like about the JP is the four screws with the tiny torx bit that strip out easily. I needed to drill out and use a easy-out on two of them.

Re: NF Unimount

I don't think so because he was worried about eye relief and with the unimount you could just move it back and forth on the rail like rings but with the direct mount it's set in one spot. Also he mentions it being the base and rings all in one and the unimount needs a base.

my error is verbiage. yes i was referencing the direct mount as you have pictured for a M700. seems like it would be a great system as long as the eye relief worked for the used.
