No more truck :(

My family narrowly avoided tragedy this morning. My Step Son was driving my truck to school in Hancock County and hit a patch of black ice. The truck began to fish tail a bit and the front end went off the roadway while the truck was sliding sideways. The front tire caught and flipped the truck. Here is the damage:

Fortunately he was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. My wife took him to the emergency room just to make sure the adrenaline wasn't concealing something be they checked him out and said that all was well.

I had the truck paid off as of last year and it was fully insured but I don't think I will be able to find another truck in the same condition for what insurance gives me for it. Looks like I'll have to do without a truck for the foreseeable future.

Not complaining, it could have been a lot worse.

Re: No more truck :(

Sorry to hear about your truck, but glad your kid is alright. I'm sure that gave him a bit of a scare. I've flipped a truck before and it's a crazy experience.

Re: No more truck :(

Be wary of the aches - they will start in the next two - three days - TRUST ME...tell him to be conservative at first but don't blow them off...
Glad everyone made it out OK.

Re: No more truck :(

Happy that your son is alive and healthy.

For the rest, it's a Dodge. They make 'em by the thousand every day. Some things are replaceable, while others are not.

That being said, having a vehicle in good condition and having it PAID FOR does most definitely create 'pause' when it's lost.

But it's a Dodge.

And you might be surprised what ou can pick up now. look on ebay motors....times are tight and there are a lot of nice vehicles for sale at very reasonable prices....take your time. I got a nicer car than I was looking for and $4000 under book...had to travel a little but it was well worth it.

And glad the kids ok

+1

Seatbelts, never leave the curb without em!

Re: No more truck :(

My daughter did something similar. I concentrated on the "she's not hurt" part instead of the "the car's f-ed" up and it made it easier.

Glad he is OK. You're right..."it could have been a lot worse".

Phlydog, the amount that they want to give you is not carved in stone. It is flexible and negotiable. Check the prices of like vehicles in your area and find some with higher asking prices and print them out. This will be examples of prices in your area. You can also argue to have them repair your vehicle or have the option to buy the vehicle and have it either repaired cheaper somewhere else, or piece it out.

It'd cost you $9000 in gas to drive it home!

& it would be a good hunting rig as some of the windows are shoot-throughs

? think a couple cans of Fix-A-Flat would get it back on the road ?
</div></div>

Just might, ya never know. The tires are BFG's so they just may pop back on there and run for another 15K.

Re: No more truck :(

Glad the boy is ok, You think he might wanna come to TX and take my wife's truck for a "spin" She would love to have a new Tahoe but I told her not till this one has at least 100k on it. Its a 2008 Ram Quad like the one he already took for a "spin" seems he knows what he is doing...

All jokes aside glad he is ok. I had a head on collision 2 days before I left for basic training. I felt fine and the recruiter offered me extra time to recuperate but I figured it would be ok. About the time I got to KY I was feeling the pain! I would bet you give him a couple days and he will be sore as hell.

+1 on this. By having a pretty good set of LOCAL comp's in my area, when my camper was destroyed by hail, I got a couple k over book for it. I pretty much got what it would take to replace it in-kind in my area. You should be able to get close to what it will take to replace it with some homework under most insurance policies.

Glad your boy is OK.

Re: No more truck :(

Good thing it was a big ass truck. If that had been a little rice burning Jap Trap there wouldn't be a whole lot of auto left. Glad he is OK, oh and +1 on making it a hunting rig.
