Re: noob

Thank you for the reply but maby ive been misunderstood my question was will it work in my lever action rifle consistently . Cause for me at least money doesnt grow on trees ive got to work for every penny i make so i dont want to go and waste 30$ on a brick of .22 ammo that wont even work in my new rifle .

Re: noob

the super colibri if i am right is a short cartrige with no powder. its powered by just the primer. in a semi auto it wont cycle the slide. possibly in a bolt it may work. but then you run into the barrel being too long for the bullet to clear, thus the handgun reccomendation. you should see if the henry will shoot shorts, or just long rifle. start off with a 550 bulk pack from walmart. you can see how your rifle likes it. try several different types, buy small boxes, 50 or 100 rounds if you can find them. your henry may like one better than the other. look on the barrel. it will say what you are supposed to shoot, most likely LR. aguila makes good ammo, but you may find it likes or does ok with cheaper stuff

Re: noob

Thank you very much thats exactly the kind of replies im looking for , i do know that my rifle can shoot .22 lr short and long . and i will take you advice and try and find some bulk .22 ammo for some reason my walmart hasnt been carrying very much ammo of any sort latly and i dont live in the boonies either .Its really strange ive never had trouble finding ammo for my shotgun or mini 14 or even lee enfield before just a couple months ago . But thank you for the advice i cant wait to go shoot this little .22 .

Re: noob

its like that all over. no popular calibers on the shelves here. the stuff they do have in stock must be stuff no one shoots, its never gone. but 45, 40, 380, 9mm, 223 all that and more is way hard to find. try the net. try ammoman.com or just type 22 ammo into google or yahoo. buy just a few of each type as you can afford to. also look on rimfirecentral.com you might find a few tips there. have fun, be careful, wear eye and ear protection. know whats beyond the target... all that stuff. is this your first rifle?

Re: noob

In most cases 22LR ammo will be a lot less money that most of the 22 Shorts or 22 Longs. Granted you can get some of the really good stuff like Eley and spend a lot for it. My understanding that standard velocity stuff tends to shoot a little better than the high speed stuff.

I have some of the Augila Super Colibri that I have shot out of my Ruger bolt action and out of a old 22 revolver and 1911 with a 22 conversion. It is really quiet out of all of them probably quietest out of the rifle. It feeds OK but I won't function my auto at all I need to chamber and eject each round manually in it. As AXEMAN mentioned it contains no powder only primer power so it could end up with enough drag and friction from the barrel and become lodged in it. Your rifle should be able to function with it in terms of the action anyway but if you do listen to each shot to make sure that it clears your barrel and that you don't fire another round into an obstructed barrel if it doesn't.

Re: noob

Regular Colibri: 20gr conical bullet, in LR case, Primer only, 375fps, may stick in rifle barrel.

Super Colibri: same bullet &case, 500fps, primer only, may stick

CB Shorts or CB Longs (LR case) 29gr bullet, 710-750fps, pretty quiet, short range target or pest control (25-30yd, then accuracy falls off)

.22LR Subsonic, Standard velocity, or Match: about 1050fps, low report, usually the most accurate at any range (usually 40gr solid, occasionally a HP)

.22High Velocity: 1250 and up, 33-40 gr solid or HP, most bulk ammo is HV

Buy 50rd boxes (or bulk cartons) until you know what your gun likes.

You're <span style="font-style: italic">only</span> in high school so your grammar isn't "so great?"

No one is looking for literary greatness, but basic grammar, capitalization and punctuation are all things you should have learned long before high school.

Re: noob

The Super Colibri shoots well from my Marlin rifles, but it sticks in my Rugers. The difference is the microgroove rifling (Marlin) and the standard configuration (Ruger)

If you want to shoot it, try shooting 1 at close range to verify it came out. If it's successful keep shooting them, checking each time for a bore obstruction.

For the cost involved I wouldn't shoot them for anything other than pest control. I live in town and use it from my Marlin 25N to shoot squirrels because it's quieter than an air rifle.

Re: noob

I sometimes use the Super Colibri in my Remington 541-S, bolt action rifle to take blackbirds off my wife's bird feeder, and have never had one stick in the barrel, but, they are really weak, and I have to take a frontal shot, in the breast because they won't penetrate the wings.

Oh, and they are shit for accuracy too, at least out of my rifle, which will shoot 3/8" groups at 50 yards with good ammo, it will only do about 2" at 25 yards with the Super Colibri.

If you're planning to shoot the rifle where the noise/safety isn't an issue, as was previously posted, I'd start with some .22 long rifle ammo from somewhere like a local Walmart.

Re: noob

Thank you very much RH4540 I took everyone's advice and bought about 6 , 50 round boxes of various ammo to try out i'll be going with my brother to the range on Saturday hopefully i'll get great results.

Re: noob

I have a henry, it likes the federal bulk stuff from walmart, I dont use my henry for target practice but I can hit sparrows from about fifty yards with iron sights. I have shot the remington golden bullet out of it and its shoots pretty good with that as well. The only ammo that I ever had problems with was the Winchester lead stuff, I cannot remember what it was called now but it always jammed in the action. Anything that is copper plated should be all right.

Re: noob

Thank you and i found out about the federal last weekend it really liked that stuff in my rifle i shot shot a quarter size group with it at 100 yards with my nikon scope . This is probably one of my favorite rifles i have now its a great little gun to shoot.
