Prayers up for me and my wife Heather.

Riding home alone from work yesterday. Dry roads. 45-50 mph. On motorcycle I had to swerve to try to avoid tboning a minivan that pulled out in front of me to turn across traffic. I was in right lane of divided 2 lane road they were coming from my right. Was wearing all motorcycle gear except for pants including full face helmet and decently tall Sidi boots. Not the sport bike or hard ones.

Broke tibia and fibula. Some road rash on right outside forearm, and knees. Surgery this afternoon sometime. Our names already in Houston and Layton temples.

Prayers my Brother . Couple O thangs to consider .
Whilst in the Hospital pre and post surgery pain would spike around 7 pm . I tried to tough it out and wait til I couldn't handle it until asking for the morphine .
Did that 3 nights in a row . In retrospect should have asked to get it at 6 or 6:30 by night 3 .
Same with the oxycodone . They offered 5 or 10mg doses . 5 did nothing . So being the Rocket Surgeon I am I always said 5 . Once I said that and it didn't work it was about 4 hrs I had to wait for the next dose . Between ; give it another hr , we have to call for permission and then the time it took after approval it was next dose time .
Move your limbs , everything .
Maybe not your busted leg but whatever you can . Keep your blood flowing it will help prevent clots , pneumonia and make it easier when it's time to get up .
If you get a new nurse tell her to adjust your catheter 😂 , only works once .
Good luck . This is my 4th week recovering and so fuggin over this shit . Intubated 3 times , at some point I got 2 nasalpherangel airways . Tore the fuck out of my sinuses . Looked raspberry pudding with blueberry chunks for a few days . After 2nd surgery got a respiratory infection that's still kicking my ass . 2 x-rays no pneumonia. I was walking the Ortho unit on day2 .
Get on your short term disability immediately . Check your benefits package for accident coverage , AFLAC or similar . Start an only fans to help cover expenses 😜 . Evidently hospital gimp porn is a thing .
Good luck Bother .

No catheter thank goodness. Work is sending esb and fmla paperwork that needs to get filled out by doctors (generally done at discharge). Have to take 3 days of pto first and then get 70% pay or 100% pay if I use 2.5 hrs of pto a day. Haven't decided which way I will go.

Don't know. 2002 Honda Magna vf750 (v4 sibling of the shadow). They had to lift it off it's right side. It was rollable to the side of the road. Could tell they didn't know about bikes. They were pushing it while still in gear.
Yeah . Got to see my bike layin on it's side with my$800 helmet picked on it . Funny that one can be in excruciating pain , shock and still have presence of mind to be pissed for your bike getting dragged up a flat bed .

Also, be as pleasant as possible to nursing staff, doctors, PT and OT. It will get you far and they'll do you small favors, and some bigger ones. One nursing assistant I had even brought me lunch from a local Mexican joint so I didn't have to keep eating hospital food.

Dumped my bike on very slightly wet pavement at an intersection back in 1975. Slow speed left turn but nearly got run over anyways. As a State Trooper unfortunately saw my share of bike vs. guard rail. It's never pretty and the guard rail wins every single time. Glad you're alive to tell your story. Best of luck on the surgery and an uneventful recovery.

Out of surgery. Went well. Staying in hospital til at least tomorrow. I think 1 rod in tibia and maybe 4 screws. Breaks were clean transverse at same height. Will try to work on xrays tomorrow.
Glad to hear . Hope the rest of your journey goes smooth . Stay positive . I joke a lot with the Healthcare Staff . It keeps the mood light and happy . They tend to be more engaging and happy . Gotta think their job must be hard dealing with gloomy winers and people living in a low point in life .
Borrowed one from a guy my buddy knew .
So this guy skydives . One day he jumps and his shoot no worky .
Don't recall the particulars ; fowled , no open etc . Guy takes the ultimate hard landing . Fast forward to ER .
Nurse : Any allergies ?
Mr. Thudd. : Yes . Gravity. 😂
Guy lived and choose to be happy and have the best day of his life everyday .
So when I was asked ;
ER Nurse : Treedoggy , any allergies ?
Treeprojectile : Yes . Guardrails . 😜 .
Also when asked , "how did this happen " ?
"My stunt double called out ."
Or
"It's a love story . Boy meets Bike . Bike meets guardrail . It was like magic , instant sparks . I knew instantly cause I had that funny feeling in my tummy , and my forearm and ankle and knee and left side of my torso ."
Funny but not meant to be was a moment of clarity whilst the ketamine was starting to kick in in the ambulance . I outta nowhere spit out " I am so fucked " . EMT answers back that "man you're ok and this could have been really bad . This will work out , you're ok " . I responded with no not that . I can't drink beer tonight . He laughed and I responded , I don't think you understand I really love the taste of beer .

Funny that after my accident I can't watch fail vids . Very aware of how fragile this skin suit is . I can feel every wayward rail ride ending in a nut crush then bouncing melon face plant . And man forget about high side launches from a bike .

It'll do that to ya. But you're also not far removed, time-wise, from it either. In my experience, being comfortable with the fact that it happened, and certain things are different now, goes a long way to reducing the emotional responses that go along with seeing videos of accidents/fail vids. Although the last thing I remember is leaving the house so 🤷, your mileage may vary.

There's actually a dashcam video of my accident recorded from a vehicle behind me, the driver turned it in to police. One day I'll watch it, though I think that one will be tough.

And this is why all my bikes wear knobbies. 20+ years of hitting the trails and the only thing broken was my pinky finger going down at about 15mph.

Although I've had some fun rides. I tagged a rock at 100mph that instantly tossed me over the bars. Retired that helmet, not a scratch on me.

Also retired a helmet and chest protector after a good game of jousting with a tree. Had to pick up pieces of plastic and fiberglass, but rode away with a couple bruises.

A buddy tried to sell me his CBR600F4i. I brought it back 20 minutes later when I learned it only did 154mph, on the rev limiter in 4th. It couldn't pull 5th, just stalled out at 9500rpm.
Realized it didn't scare me, and I'd be dead real quick.

My bud back in the day went to England bought a Triumph 650 and drove all through Europe , the Balkans, and was in Scandinavia (13,000 miles in 11 weeks) when a truck going the opposite way had a prominent mirror which took him off his bike at 110 mph. He had a helmet and leathers, but badly fractured his arm, but lucky guy after 2 surgeries he did just fine. Came home got on the bike one more time and never thereafter.

Yes.

And be funny like @Alphatreedog suggested.

A work friend is in the hospital, busted her acetabulum really bad on Weds.
healthy gal, dog tripped her up when she was wiped out after 3 12 night shifts in a row and she fell down the stairs.
She spent 4 hrs in the OR yesterday with one of top ortho trauma guys (esp joint stuff).
Took her some good eats today

Her room is covered with notes and cards.

She may be the brightest star of being a patient I have ever seen.
Even with pain she is bubbly and sweet.

I don’t know how I missed this thread. I’ve been putting off selling this Indian, but y’all reinforce that it’s got to go! Wrecked a Yamaha 750 back in 82, and messed my thumb up pretty bad but luckily that was the worst of it. Like some of the pics above, a full face saved my life. Prayers up for everyone injured. Taking time to heal up pretty much sucks, but you have to do it, along with the rehab. My gosh, y’all be careful out there.
