Not great, but not bad. I tested some Federal 510B at 100 yards this morning and wasn't impressed, but out to 50 yards I feel it's good ammo. I still like the Eley Sport as you can see above.

Note the first shot - "cold bore shot" at 1:00 o'clock in the 6 Ring. I don't if that was really caused by a cold bore or if I just didn't take a proper sight picture?

Hard target to score, but I think I count 11 Xs. That one 9 just missed the line.

^ Another damn fine target. Move that over to the left a little and that X would be GONE. Lookin good boys!

My last cold bore did the exact thing. WAY out at 1:00. Never seen it do that before. Finally gave it a cleaning, and am still getting it dirty. Still isn't quite right but getting there.

Re: OCT. 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

I'm going to try the SK or Wolf in this Marlin 925 and see what happens with the cold bore shot at 100 yards just as soon as I get some ordered.

I'd really like to make this Marlin 925 my dedicated 100 yd .22LR rifle, but it's not cooperating with me. Maybe the SK or Wolf might help? It sure ain't going to hurt it...

Great shooting by the way you guys!

Any ammo recommendation for a 10/22 with 16" standard barrel @ 100 yards?

Re: OCT. 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

My 10/22 has cycled the Eley Sport (1085 fps) ammo without any trouble. This is subsonic year round where I live. I'm sure others here have some good information and suggestions.

Sorry guys, been a while since I have posted in the long range section. I actually shot one last month and never posted the score. I think it was something like a 243-8X or something. Anyway, here is this month. Not a personal record, but I had a smile on my face when I walked up to the target. I desperately need a spotter for the 200 yards shots.

Re: OCT. 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

I think we need a new rule. Whatever match we are doing, Carter has to shoot at 3 times that distance, since he is still whooping our asses at twice lol.

I actually went out today and shot the 100 TQ-4. It's been a long time since I shot that match. Got a 140-6X, but am not posting that as my official score cause I'm pretty sure I can do better. Just a little rusty. Also this was only my second time out with the .17 since I cleaned it. Was fun to shoot for points again though!

If it is any consolation, I am almost out of my ammo that shoots really well at 200. I am going to have to look for some new lots soon. That is the frustrating thing about rimfire. It is not like switching out a component in centerfire where you just need to work up a new load. Finding a new rimfire lot takes a lot of time and expense... but unlike centerfire, all the time searching for the ultimate lot of ammo is trigger time. That is what is fun about rimfire.

SBS, I did find this on RFC, about cold bore shots. It's pretty interesting;

This one is a little difficult for me to score can someone verify. I started using CCI SV they have been a big improvement of the Remington Golden Bullet still not quite as good as Wolf but great bang for your buck. BTW this competition is a great time really has helped me in learning the fundamentals.

Thanks SBS.

I really enjoyed shooting this target after I got my zero with the iron sights. My goal I set for myself when I started shooting at 100 yards with the open sights was that I wanted to reach or at least break a score of 200, so needless to say I was happy with the 214.

I think that is the joys of inconsistent 17 HMR ammo. If you knew you threw those, that is one thing. Looking at the rest of those shots, you would have felt yourself throw something that low. I am thinking those were undercharges.

There is a chance that it is a breathing issue, but that would probably throw you low in the 9 ring, not low in the 8 ring.

And with a 17, it is definitely not wind effects. With a 22, wind can impact verticals more than most would think, but with a 17, the bullet is hauling so much ass, an extra 5 - 10 mph will not really impact verticals much at 100.

Re: OCT. 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

^ Yeah with the 17 at 100 I don't have to really worry about the wind at all. At 200 yeah, but not 100. Yeah looking at the rest of the target, I'd like to think that wasn't my shooting. Like you said, a couple undercharges I hope.

I almost got to shoot this at 100... I brought my own target and a 100 yd tape measure from home to lay out the target, but the range police got me and told me I can't put a target short of the target line, so I had to move it back to 110 yds.

Conditions were dead calm, which is why I wanted to go for a record. As it stands, it is not a record, but it is the best I have done at 110 yards... My past record was shot at 100 yards at my ranch.

I also used a 1/2" paster for the center of the target, which I blew clear off around shot #20. Still, the small target lets you see where your shots are going very clearly. It was a good day at the range.

Re: OCT. 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

My record is actually 250-22X! But it was shot at 100 not at 110, which is my typical range. I tried to sneak a 100 yard round in today unsuccessfully at my home range. If I could have, my record might have fallen.

I actually didn't use my "good" lot of ammo. I am saving it up for Smack the Smiley. In the meanwhile, I am going to have to go back to the ammo testing drawing board. I can't believe I have already shot 8 bricks of ammo this year. That is something like 4,000 shots!

I am looking at that target, and I think you only had one 9. That second "9" looks like it edged the ring pretty easily. Did you try overlaying it with another target and then setting a spent 22 casing on there? I am pretty sure the 9 is a 10.

Definitely 11X.

It is almost too close to call. I have a paper weight on the desk that has an 1 15/16" diameter base, and if you reconstruct the 9-10 ring with it, it looks like that hole is just outside the line, possibly cutting it. Either way, that is by far my 100 yard record. I'm happy, and leaving that shot as a 9 gives me a reason to keep on shooting, trying to better myself.

Spoiler alert, I'll be shooting something different next month, if I can decide what to put on it for glass...

Re: OCT. 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Thanks haptoshoot!

Where I shoot the wind can only blow in from the left or from behind the shooters, there is a 15' tall berm that runs along the right side of the range and continues around behind the backboards. I did get your PM, thanks.

Re: OCT. 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

No Worries I had a target last week that I scored at 249 at the range. Got home looked again and it turned out to be 235 in reality ...... missed it by thaaaaaaaaat much!!

Re: OCT. 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Theoretically, the berm seems like it would slow the wind down and make it easier to shoot. In my experience, a berm like that is harder to shoot because in certain situations, it creates unpredictable wind patterns.

For instance, if the wind were to blow from the right, the current might blow from the left closer to the ground and to the right higher up off the ground.

Nice work Meat. Yeah it's like that at the club I go to. The berms are about 20 feet high and surround the entire range. Rarely is there ever any wind. It's pretty cool if you stick to the center.

Welcome to the SH competitions MEAT4272, you had a great first showing!

Usually I don't like ot put a personal comment or opinion in the monthly match results, but you guys are absolutely KILLIN' the targets! When compared to the scores when this thing first started, everyone has improved. I think both the short and long range competitions have allowed everyone to grow in their shooting abilities, especially when "recipes" are swapped in the learnings threads.

Alot of new shooters the last few month's, I know one month it'll all come together and almost everyone will post a score, both new and the old favorties. That will be interesting if it happens.....

Now on to November, a time for Thanksgiving - I give thanks for Sniper's Hide and the good folk that frequent here.

Re: OCT. 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

You guys did a great job. Nice shooting. I have been shooting my .22 a little bit. Usually after, I shoot my .308, I can kick back and have a little fun shooting rim fire. It's a real challenge. The Florida wind and high humidity can really play havoc on a .22 going down range. With all the variables it can actually get a little frustrating. But if is still fun. I think I will try joining the competition. Looks like everyone is having a good time.
