Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I unfortunately had my SRS A1 stolen, had a Proof Carbon 300prc barrel and Kahles 624i scope. But I still have the factory 6.5 creedmoor barrel and a custom 22” 6 creedmoor barrel. If i get the A2 covert chassis are the A1 barrels interchangeable? That way i just need the chassis instead of another complete rifle.

That’s too bad. There really are some a-holes in this world. Yes , if you buy a chassis only your 6.5 and 6 Creed barrels will drop right into a used Gen 2, A1, or a new A2 chassis.

Sorry to hear dude

Have an A1 DT with a heavy contour 6.5cm that I ride the bench with since it’s too heavy to hump around the woods. Figure it’s time I just dive into an A2 covert chassis for hunting. Looking to go as lightweight as possible. Thinking 16” proof carbon is 6.5cm (will be used for whitetail) for when I’m in rifle cartridge zones. It’ll be wearing a TBAC ULTRA 9

Anybody out there make big bore like 450 bushmaster or 458socom for DT SRS?

appreciate any bodies experience rocking a covert hunting and weight numbers.

This is my A2, scale reads 8lb 10.1oz. Its a 18" 300NM proof barrel with a flutted shank and a CA titanium brake and a 9 slot aluminum rail on the handgard. I don't see how you can get any lighter than this unless you remove the monopod. Hard to add less than 2lb to that number for an optic and mount that is durable and reliable.

How does the 300 NM perform out of an 18 inch barrel.

euro optic is another good place to buy from.

Got to pop my cherry today with my SRS A1. I must say it is a completely different feel. It will take a little to get used to but I like the platform so far.

You might be surprised how quickly you adapt. It was foreign to me as well when I first shouldered my DT. Couple of range sessions later and I didn’t even think about it anymore.

I am in the middle of removing my srs handguard for a covert handguard. Does any one have any tips or tricks to loosening the nut? Also, are the the thread left handed or right handed thread? Thanks.

I went through this whole thread over time and remember seeing a pretty specific post on weights from chassis up to a full rifle setup. Also saw some good posts recently but all seem to be A2’s. I guess what I’m after since I can’t find the post or page it’s on is can anyone tell me what a gen 2 srs A1 would weigh with a proof carbon barrel at 22.5” in 6.5 caliber? Rest of rifle is standard, could pull monopod. I guess I’d be curious to see some setups trying to go lite with the A1.

That was me - here’s the refresher on the SRS weight.
Lots of discussion about the weight and everyone seems to post what their complete rifle weighs. That’s helpful to the point where someone needs to hit a 16lb restriction.

Here’s my take:
A1 Covert Chassis + Skins, monopod removed: 4 lb 8 oz
Buttpad, no spacers: 7 oz
Buttpad spacer, each: 2.6 oz
A1 Bolt, “308”: 12.2 oz
A2 Bolt, “308”: 12.0 oz
SA 6 Rd Mag, empty: 6.5 oz
Monopod: 5.6 oz
RRS ARCA Plate: 6.2 oz
ARC M10 QD-L 30mm mount: 8.5 oz

260 Rem barrel, fluted barrel and tenon, 27”, .920 muzzle with Area 419 adapter: 5 lb 4 oz

300 Win Mag barrel, non fluted, 27”, .850 muzzle, Area 419 adapter, 5 lb 1 oz

6xc barrel, non fluted, 27”, .875 muzzle, Area 419 adapter, 5 lb 5 oz

308 barrel, non fluted, 17”, .890 muzzle, Area 419 adapter, 3 lb 8 oz

450 Bushmaster barrel, non fluted, 23”, .920 muzzle, Area 419 adapter, 4 lb 6 oz

260 Rem barrel, non fluted, 19”, .875 muzzle, Area 419 adapter, 4 lb 6 oz

Add up what you’ll need, pick your rings/mount, add your scope weight and total weight of ammo and you should be good.
The A2 chassis saves about a pound, so hopefully someone else can post the exact weight with the bolt, buttpad, magazine removed.

It is a SRS A1. I do have the the forearm coupler removal tool on it. I guess my vice doesnt have enough bite to hold the forearm tight. I think I will take it to a gunsmith. I dont want to damage it.

Generally a good idea if you have concerns. When the Covert came out, I got a handguard hoping I could easily swap it out. Nope. It’s super difficult the first time you do it, enough that you’ll question what you’re doing. It gets a little easier over time, but after doing it three or four times I just stopped and left the Covert length version on.

Never mind. Yikes.
After about 4-500 rounds my ES Tactical 6.5 CM barrel is starting to settle in nicely. Last three groups I’ve shot with it.

^^ it doesn't take 4-500 rounds lol
Maybe but I couldn’t get these types of groups initially. I don’t shoot groups much after sighting in the rifle but went to a long range shooting school and used their ammo. I needed to re-zero my rifle after and the 3 groups I posted are after 4-500 rounds of ammunition through the barrel. Maybe even 600 rounds. I have kept the records but not added anything up. Hence my comment of settling in after 4-500 rounds of ammo.
