Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Finally got some time behind my SRS - post lockdown .
Zeroed my Steiner M7Xi 4-28x56 msr2 , really really enjoyed my time behind it . very easy to zero , and comfortable to stay behind .
Parallax was easy to set and the MSR2 reticle is quite nice for precision stuff

So I’m looking at getting my next DT barrel, and I’m thinking of a 300 magnum in a contour resembling a truck axel and finished in the 28-30ish range. The only application would be ELR and maybe some LR coyote and pig hunting if we are shooting from the truck. I am thinking about sticking with a Cherry Bomb break, so I have the option to put my Thunder Chicken on it. Have any of you tried a set up like this? Any tips on what works vs what I should avoid?

^^ pretty self explanatory. Get a straight barrel at your desired length and stick your can on the end. Been done lots of times.
Of course, but I’m thinking about things like if the difference between a straight taper at 1 inch diameter Vs 1.25 inch diameter makes any meaningful difference in heating or harmonics. Did someone try a shank diameter barrel? This system has a good deal of nuance to it, and I’ve found that I can avoid making bad decisions by trying to explore the nuance before making purchases.

I had a straight tube 1.25” 29” 300 Norma barrel made that weighed about 9.5 lbs. I think that put the gun at a total of 23 lbs or so. The 300 Norma didn’t recoil much and you don’t need a brake. I ended up selling it because I lost my long range spot.
I ended up picking up a 300 Win Mag barrel to replace it and have been pretty happy with it.

ES-Tactical has a couple of 6.5 creedmoor barrels, a 6creed and a 300 PRC in stock and ready to ship for great prices if anyone is looking. I just grabbed a covert barrel from them!

I would call SAC and get a 300 lapua imp done up

Hopefully mine from July is done soon

Well I’ve been really wanting a Covert setup for “lighter” weight rig for hunting. So I started out just wanting an A1 Covert hand guard for SRS A1... which then turned into wanting to sell my A1 for the A2 because it’s lighter.. which turned into me keeping my A1 and ordering an A2 covert with two conversions....

My friends and family say I need to attend GA..... Guns Anonymous... but I don’t think I have a problem.

SAC is doing the build, same MultiCam Shadow coat... debating on either a ZCO420 or TT315P for the top

- DT A2 Covert
- Proof Carbon 18” 6.5cm 1:7.5” twist
- Bartlein 16” 450bm 1:16” twist

Anyone have some load data they're willing to share for DT 338 lapua factory barrel shooting Berger 300 gr otms on top of N570 + Fed 215Ms? I'd also be interested in what jump or jam people are finding good accuracy at with the bergers in the factory barrel. Cheers!

Kind of random- I’ve got an aftershock brake threaded 3/4 x 24 that came with a 7 wsm barrel I bought from a guy recently. I run a TBAC CB setup so I have no use for it, and this group of rifle owners is probably one of the few that might actually use it.

someone hit me up with an offer like “I’ll give you 2 bags of skittles and 3 PCs of used .223 brass” and I’ll send you the brake. Or whatever- I could also use an extra 1.5”30mm Mount or another magazine if someone wanted to trade to me and I’ll send cash.

Ok, back to your regular programming. carry on.

I’ve got an early Gen 1 and have been seriously considering getting an A1 or A2. Which do you prefer and why?
Very hard to say. I like the A1 trigger better. But I have a 22.5” 6.5 creed with proof research barrel that I love in my A2 because it’s so lightweight. I also prefer the mlok rail on the A2. I guess I lean toward the A2, unless you plan to spend all your time on the range, in which case the weight of the A1 is an advantage.

That pattern is awesome. Might be quicker than you think. Please post a pic when you get it.
I’ve been thinking about a covert handguard. Are they available anywhere?
I don’t know of any. I’m sure there’s some. Maybe special purpose rifle? SAC said about 2-3 months for the covert hand guard, 4 months of so for a Bartlein 450bm barrel, and 6 months or so for a proof carbon in 6.5cm. Sucks it’s gonna take so long. Had to settle for a 16.75” 6.5cm proof cf barrel since they’re not taking special orders at the moment (I wanted an 18”)
